Post-Worlds Way Too Early Olympic Lineup Predictions
MizzouFan01 replied to RandolphTJones's topic in International Wrestling
I’d add O’Toole in the mix at 74kg. He should be fully healed if not now soon. Not saying he will make the team, but he has a chance. I would put him on par with Carr and Mitchell. -
No talk of injury, yes? He dominated his first match, right? Leading up to Worlds, he was solid at Final X and previous matches, correct? He was coming off an Olympic Silver, and the finals there was relatively close, if I recall. So consternation is warranted. Sometimes, there are just bad matchups. Or one isn't mentally in the game against an opponent. Or things start off poorly, and seem to go downhill. Look at what happened to Simone Biles. She just lost it for a while. Or the Japanese tennis player. Very elite baseball players sometimes can't buy a hit or get a throw to first. Or, closer to home, Dake and Borroughs getting smashed once ... at the Olympics (was it?). Who knows? Maybe Lee will share something. Maybe not. More importantly, I think, is how he responds the next few times out. I bet most of us who have wrestled or competed in sports at a serious level have a head-scratching loss or two

Yeah, it's just so insane that they have just 6 weights. Nolf... I feel like 154 would a great weight for him. There are so many guys who are stuck between weights, it's just ridiculous. I don't have all the good examples, others would have more, but... going back to 10 would be great. Dake, Taylor...even Howe was a monster behind JB at 74 and would have(or did) all thrive at 79 or in DT case, 86. But not after burning several years. As for Brooks-Hidlay, I'd love to see them Wrestle again... but you just stain your own legacy so badly, it's sad Brooks felt the need to cheat. I didn't really get why he was going 97KG to begin with, but... this is about Hidlay and it's cool to see him break through(now...can we get Fix to do so!)

Morbid celebration of ideological murder
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Caveira's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
There it is. In the simplest of terms, and as direct as possible, nicely done... "Yes Kirk was tasteless and blunt" -
Or... bring Logan Stieber to Iowa. Everyone's throwing out Dake, Burroughs. Why not a guy like Stieber? I get he's probably in line at OSU, but you can coach at a rival. Metcalf did it, Ryan, Gable, naming more would be pointless as it's not a point of contention. I don't see Iowa moving away from the Brands though... which would be pretty bold.

So was the Starocci thing a fluke...???
scourge165 replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
Well... I hadn't heard that, but... doing something harmful to yourself still isn't the same as hurting others or running your mouth. Plus, it seems pretty speculative. You get the idea though. -
Trump's DOJ wants to criminalize free speech
nick replied to Tripnsweep's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
AG Bondi did not have a good few days talking about criminalizing hate speech... I tried to include sources from all over the spectrum https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/16/pam-bondi-first-amendment-hate-speech-prosecution-00566424 https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bondi-hate-speech-remarks-spark-torrent-criticism-from-conservatives https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5506041-mike-johnson-pam-bondi-hate-speech-comments/ https://newrepublic.com/post/200502/maga-right-reaction-pam-bondi-hate-speech-free-speech https://www.thefire.org/news/why-everything-pam-bondi-said-about-hate-speech-wrong https://x.com/repthomasmassie/status/1967946533770551390?s=46 https://x.com/sav_says_/status/1967806738427678757 I saw she attempted to walk it back, but not a good look on her part -
I thought the team photos offered some interesting insights into the different philosophies of the teams. Irans team photo was just the coaches, a large retinue of professional looking middle aged men who wouldn't look out of place in North American or Western European professional sports teams. The American photo puts the wrestlers front and center but has a few grizzled coaches flanking the team. Japan looks like it's athlete driven and amateurish. As if athletes and seconds doubled up as coaches in their warm up gear, a self lead an scholastic vibes. The coaches are just barely in frame in the far right.
-
Addendum to the above. I just had a look and as a sophomore at Cheesehead he also lost to Logan Swensen from Minnesota and Tommy Verrette from Colorado/Oklahoma, who is more of a Greco specialist. Undefeated freshman, 2 losses as a soph, one as a junior. Probably about 150-3 heading into senior year.
