  1. Will wrestling ever be Moneyballed? AI could be used to analyze tape and match data, then generate gameplans for attacks and counters, what to watch out for, best positions to choose. That already happens today, it's just a very manual and arduous process.
  2. One weigh-in per day is enough. Maybe matside weigh-ins should be seen as an opportunity. Make the wrestlers face-off like they do at boxing or MMA weigh-ins. Home guy (at a dual) comes out to his walk-out music, faces his opponent matside, then they each step on the scale. Show the fans what each guy weighs-in at. If a wrestler misses weight he can step off the scale and has one more try with a two minute timer or the coaches can sub-in another guy. Create tension. There's nothing wrong with adding drama to wrestling. A lot of fans would love that stuff. People also bet on anything and there could be action around the weigh-in weights.
  3. Alvarez was clearly cutting too much weight at Rutgers but... yeah. Looks like he's discovered Massey's Pizza.
  4. They're threatened by the prospect of players unionizing.
  5. It's normal. All students enter undeclared. Depending on the department, you apply into your major and declare sometime during your second and fourth semester. A number of big universities have a similar process. You come in with an intended major, but have to meet certain pre-reqs before you can apply to a major, esp in competitive fields.
  6. Tangential, but a buddy has been posting on social media about his kid playing Varsity Girl's Flag Football at her HS. Sounds like it's getting a lot of attention and support based on the comments. If WFF continues to grow, it could become an NCAA sport one day and create more scholarship opportunities for wrestling. Not that I'm holding my breath. And hopefully not to the detriment of women's college wrestling.
  7. Maybe he could talk to the pope and rep the Vatican.
  8. Nice. WIll this be on ESPN+?
  9. I wonder what is the class distribution of D1 125 pounders looks like. Wkn probably knows. Intuitively, the weight could skew younger (lots of underclassmen) as many guys grow out of the weight. If we bring back 118 the advantage would be even more pronounced for older guys who can make the weight and compete mostly with younger, less experienced wrestlers.
  10. What are the rules for an athlete to compete at the Olympics or their sport's World Championships as under a neutral flag? I assume there's a process for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the Olympics as AINs. But what's to stop say, Carter Starocci from telling the IOC/UWW "hey I am uninvolved with the policy actions of the United States and cannot accept the privileges nor consequences of competing for the USA. I believe I represent the future Independent Republic of Staroccistan and would like to try to qualify for the Olympics as an AIN athlete?"
  11. I'm assuming so.
  12. As long as he doesn't injure that forearm going across his opponents throats, he'll be fine
  13. I have no idea what's going on here, but I think I like it
  14. We should all troll Downey and AJ Ferrari to enter the Bill Farrell at 86kg. That would be an entertaining matchup.
  15. Is Gomez still banged up from last season? I can't remember what his injury was. Also where can I get a SEAN BORMET IS MY HOMEBOY tshirt?
  16. I wonder where Brands and some of the others are at right now weight and training wise. If it was me, I would've taken a vacation from the gym and hit the all-you-can-eat buffet the moment that the earlier NCAA ruling came down.
  17. For ASU, Parco would probably do well at 141 but JVaz can't go 149. Doubtful that Ysa could either.
  18. I agree about the cut but don't think his chances of placing higher improve at 133 since it's a deeper weight. It'll be like Lizak bumping up his senior year.
  19. Great news. Programs in our sport shouldn't be afraid to ask for nice things.
  20. Cejudo Burroughs Angle --> fundraise, attract NILs based on their names and make sure they have a solid support staff
  21. I thought it was the results of lobbying from coaches and programs. They wanted to cut the transfer portal window in half to 30 days, but the NCAA settled on 45. Probably to strike a balance between opportunities for athletes and helping coaches to get a handle on planning and managing a roster and recruiting.
