Agree with the general direction of what the OP is saying, but I don't really see how committing to Iowa is "refreshing" for the sport. Iowa would be fine with or without him; so would Oklahoma State and a bunch of other schools. It's unfair to expect Bo to go to a struggling program that could really use him, just saying that this commit to Iowa is like calling a player signing with the Yankees instead of the Dodgers "refreshing" for baseball.

I thought the gap might've been largely attributed to size and physicality, which is not easy to overcome at this point of the season. But I hope for a good rematch.

Good get for Iowa and great pick for Bo. Awesome for Iowa fans. My idiotic take is that Brands will be under a ton of pressure, given the sky high expectations people now have. Bo's going to Iowa to be the first 4x champ in program history, among other reasons. If Brands doesn't deliver a four-timer, it'll be a *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*storm of epic proportions, including (especially) hellfire from the Hawkeye faithful, because it'll be another in a long line of letdowns, and the biggest since Spencer Lee. I mean, it'll be on BB too because he's set the bar really high and is his own hype machine... but Brands needs to bring down the temperature with all the hype about Bassett being the chosen one. He's just setting himself up for failure.

By "they" do you mean Iowa's fanbase (HR doesn't count because they're always angry and panicking)? I was referring more to the program. I don't think the coaches, administration, or roster are losing much sleep over it.

Not a lot of discussion about Barr since the Iowa dual. Feels like he's been flying a little bit under the radar in the discussions, although a lot of folks did pick Buchanan. I thought Barr would take this match on "first feels" and outscramble Buchanan, and at least get out from underneath, but he really couldn't get anything started. The match didn't seem as close as the score may suggest, and I'm not sure what adjustments Barr will make between now and Big Tens.

No panic if Iowa whiffs on BB, but you know they are going on a spending spree in the xfr portal with that pool of money.

I thought Ferrari's size gave Starocci a little trouble. He looked pretty big, and Starocci was sucking some wind late in the match. Maybe he was doing just enough to win without giving the Mini Focus a real feel. He never seemed to be in any real danger of losing. Dunno what Ferrari's gameplan was, as he didn't really get anything going, but dude needs to learn to keep off the edges and circle back to center. IF they wrestle folkstyle again, Starocci will probably be ready for Ferrari's roll-through single leg defense thing. I don't blame Brands for trotting Ferrari out, because now he knows exactly where he's at. Pretty nice that we will likely get to see both Ferracci and Starnold this season.

I'm still shellshocked by how he completely destroyed Caliendo. Never thought I'd see Cal break like that. Dude gave up the tf on a stalling point, which is the most un-Caliendo thing ever. Mesenbrink is just a ton of fun to watch.

I counted 33. Not counting Ayala, Iowa had just 2 takedowns during the entire dual. Drake had 6. I thought Mesenbrink (6 TDs) had the most for PSU, but Lilledahl had 7. I've got 25 - 8 PSU on takedowns.
