Does Yazdani have any chance?
TylerDurden replied to Takuto_Otoguro's topic in International Wrestling
He does have a chance, but Taylor is the favorite. I don't expect a 7-1 win again, but I do expect Taylor to win in the 4-1 / 5-2 range -
Good riddance? What the hell is wrong with you. That kid busted his ass for MN. If he wasn't physically or mentally prepared to return, at least part of that has to be on the medical and coaching staff, yes? If he was too injured to wrestle (which is appeared from the outside) then he shouldn't have been out there.

I like that Kenny Monday isn't messing around in year one. That's a challenging slate for a first-year program, especially one that's almost entirely freshman. I'll be rooting for Morgan State to have success.

Which two teams, combined, beat PSU in a dual?
TylerDurden replied to Le duke's topic in College Wrestling
PSU is likely very competitive in a match against a lineup of the rest of DI. It's an impressive collection of talent. -
Then it's an illogical and absurd standard. Every current D1 heavyweight would lost to Masoumi in a similar fashion. There aren't guys like him in D1. I tend to agree that Carroll would benefit from a redshirt season like most freshman would, just completely disagree that his match with Masoumi is any sort of barometer for that decision. It's not like we just watched him get teched by Lucas Davison.
-
Not sure this is the match to troll Carroll supporters for. Masoumi has won Cadets, U20 and U23 worlds already. He's a senior-level medal threat right now. Literally the only takeaway is that Carroll isn't the best age-group 125kg in the world, which we already knew.

Because more people in the US are familiar with folkstyle and also have unhealthy obsessions with the universities they attended or support.

Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 12 shuffle (maybe) coming in hot

Texas kills every league it's in. Change my mind. -
Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 12 shuffle (maybe) coming in hot
TylerDurden replied to bnwtwg's topic in College Wrestling
2PAC is the obvious choice. -
So you're telling me I need to click a link to the see the rest of the results?

I don't personally gamble on apps, but placing bets quickly and almost unconsciously is part of the design. They make it very, very easy to place wagers. I'm not saying 1,283 doesn't seem like a large number of wagers over the time period for most people, but placing that many bets via an app that you can access 24 hours a day isn't the most noteworthy thing in the complaint.

Swiderski needs to be at 149 because he is too big to make 141 regularly...but this situation with Johnson makes it a bit simpler to sort out in the room, I'd guess.

Probably has to cut 15 lbs.

This is the best looking mat in college wrestling. Prove me wrong.

How long do Brands and Sanderson keep at it?
TylerDurden replied to TwoPointsTakeDown84's topic in College Wrestling
Probably because he couldn't walk very well anymore. He put his body through the ringer. -
Your condescension aside, you keep throwing your vague opinion out there without any real substance. Worse than what? 94% of team titles are owned by six schools. Greater advantage than when? Transfers and recruits have always been attracted to the best teams. No one is buying titles anymore than they ever have by fully supporting their programs. Koll can (and will) do the same thing as anyone else as soon as Stanford catches up. He'll use the portal to recruit over the kids HS kids he's lying to right now. He'll use NIL enticements and the Cardinal Wrestling Club as draw. The NIL and portal aren't boogeymen.
-
Since the NCAA began hosting DI championships, there have only been 11 different team champions. There have been five, one-time winners. Six schools have won 82 of the 87 titles that the NCAA has handed out. Nineteen schools have been runners-up and only nine of those 19 haven't won the title. NIL didn't do that. The transfer portal didn't do that. Wrestling has always been top-heavy and various methods have been used to get to the top of the heap. Koll is a smart guy, but he's spouting off with his sanctimonious nonsense to send a message (also lying) to recruits that he's not going to recruit over you via the portal (which he undoubtedly will, given the chance). Do you really think Koll is going to keep trotting out a team full of guys who can't win in the Pac 12?
-
I always find sanctimony from coaches to be laughable, much like it is from politicians.
-
Got to be honest, I was (and to some extent still am) skeptical about Mendez bumping up to 141, but the success he's having in FS (albeit U20s) as an undersized 65Kg is impressive. Kid has some dog in him.
-
Is Swiderski's redshirt confirmed? Kid has a lot of talent, but it sure looked like the weight cut was too much for him. He needs to let his body reset a bit and find a higher weight class.

Stop trying to steal Donnell Washington. He's from Indiana and wrestled his last two years of HS in Indiana.

Are we sure Doucet is going to be the starter this year for Oklahoma State? Isn't Christian Carroll ready to go? -
Assuming good health, I would guess he's around for the 2024 cycle, at least. He's only 30 years old and is a quality 125kg. I think he's the third-best in the US behind Gable and Parris, but he's only outclassed by Gable (like all the US HWTs are). If Gable calls it a career after 2024, Gwiz is 100% in the mix for the spot, even if he isn't the favorite. He's a competitive guy, like everyone at that level. He just has to decide how much he wants to grind for a spot he's unlikely to win. It's a mental competition for him. If he thinks he can do it, he'll keep going. If he has doubts, he'll likely retire after the next Olympic cycle.

Predictions sure to go wrong: 57 KG - Thomas Gilman vs Zane Richards - 2-0 - one 6-2-type match, one tech 61 KG - Vito Arujau vs Nahshon Garrett - 2-0 - two techs. 65 KG - Yianni Diakomihalis vs Nick Lee - 2-1 - Lee wins a 6-4-type match, Yianni with a tech and a 4-0-type win 70 KG - Zain Retherford vs Tyler Berger - 2-0 - two techs 74 KG - Kyle Dake vs Jason Nolf - 2-0 - though I want to give Nolf one match. First match is 4-1-ish, then some Dake bombs in a tech. 79 KG - Jordan Burroughs vs Chance Marsteller - 2-1 - similar to 2022. JB with a pair of 4-0 wins, Chance takes a match 3-2 86 KG - David Taylor vs Aaron Brooks - 2-0 - DT wins both something just shy of a tech 92 KG - Michael Macchiavello vs Zahid Valencia - 2-1 - MM takes his two in the 7-3 range, Zahid wins a 6-2-like match 97 KG - Kyle Snyder vs J’den Cox - 2-1 - Snyder wins two controlled, 5-2-type matches. Cox gets one 6-1 125 KG - Gable Steveson vs Mason Parris - 2-0 - Gable owns Parris. Two techs, Parris might get a push out in one match

Honest Opinions for 2023-2024 - Your Team Edition
TylerDurden replied to nhs67's topic in College Wrestling
I'm curious as to what makes you think Woods would win four out of five against Alirez. Woods is very good, but after rewatching that NCAA match, I don't see anything that makes me think he's winning 80% of the time in that matchup. To the larger point about the Iowa lineup, Woods and Cassioppi are the two guys I'm counting as locks for AA. Brands likely gets there again, but I don't think he's a sure thing based on his style and the guys returning at 174. Everything else is a question mark on some level. Talented guys, for sure, but they have their work cut out for them to get on the podium.
