Are there still academic requirements to transfer? I thought a student athlete had to be making real degree progress later in their career to be able to transfer? Or did that all end with profit sharing and NIL? thanks in advance

Does anyone have an idea of why NCAA policy doesn’t allow for the other place winners to be elevated? also, does anyone know if they are updating point standings? Last year I believe they updated points for Big 12s, but that may have been a conference decision, not an NCAA one. Thanks in advance.

At the NCWA (where TSU competes now) tournament in March, the rumor was Pac10

I just got back from NCWA national tournament. The rumor there was that Tarleton St has an agreement with the Pac 12, but for it to work the university has to agree to fully fund a men's team (and also possibly a women's team). That program has done great at the NCWAs the past few years and it seems like they have enough school support so far to do this.

There was a 184 that did this ~15(?) years ago. They defaulted him to 6th and took away his team points if I remember correctly

A random offshoot question. It’s a rare occurrence, but occasionally brothers will take “co-championships” in the finals of tournaments instead of wrestling. I’ll show my age here but I think the Woodalls at PSU did this for freestyle once. Would this be allowed to happen in a post-season final if 2 brothers met?

I help coach an NCWA team, and the narrative Tarleton state had at the national tournament in March was that they were still trying to be the first D1 team in Texas. They have rapidly become one of the best teams for the NCWA.

In 2022 I competed at a masters tournament and Erik was in my bracket. It was one of those ones where the organizer moves everyone into the same bracket instead of sticking to the ages and weight classes. I was able to chat with Erik there. He had a pretty neat wrestling journey. He is a multiple time veterans world team member as well as a veterans world medalist. with that in mind I don’t think I’d consider him a male version of the person mentioned in this thread. I think he takes the veterans competitions seriously and tries to go to as many tournaments as possible to prepare.

I was looking into this HOF and their credentials. Does anyone know what exactly self-identified means in this context? Does this mean you claim and you are a member of one of the recognized groups?

I think a lot of the bigger programs have in house advisors for athletes with significant NIL deals. They don’t want athletes getting in trouble with taxes and etc. one thing I’m wondering is for big-time prospects how long until the state’s tax laws start becoming a recruiting advantage. I believe TN, TX, and FL don’t have state income taxes. I saw when the QB from TN transferred to UCLA, that even though the deals were similar in total amounts (2 vs 1.75 million/year) because of CA income taxes his take home is much, much less in CA than what it was. Probably only a football and basketball issue though.

I thought I heard something on a podcast that alluded to an injury. is he planning to go to 92 or directly to 97? I’ve heard that 97 for the next Olympics was the goal. Going directly to 97 would be interesting with Snyder in the same room. With respect to the other suggestion, can’t you look it up if someone is out of the testing pool?

A pharmacologist and a wrestling coach here. The muscle loss (sarcopenia) associated with this drug would likely negate any advantage for an athlete competing at a high level. One of the unanswered questions is what happens once you come off these drugs? Some of the companies that make them are trying to get a “childhood obesity” or similar label in the thoughts of people needing to be on them for life. As an aside. Has anyone seen anyone use these drugs and lose weight and look healthy afterwards? The folks I’ve seen on them all have an unhealthy “sucked down” appearance.

I consider myself an educated person, but not in criminal law. Before this thread I honestly never really understood why time was taken off of sentences for good behavior. It does make more sense to me now as an incentive to maintain order in prison. Thank you for pointing that out the way that you did.

Anyone have insight as to what happens after a transfer? The wrestler that is leaving still has to finish the semester’s classes. Are they barred from practices until the term ends? Classes are probably less of a concern now with all the online options, but I’m curious if anyone has any knowledge here. Thanks in advance.

HS: 275 (PA did not have 215 until a few years after I graduated) college: 285, 197, 235 (NCWA) made it to 198 last summer on a dare!

We just got back a few weeks ago from the NCWA national Tournament, and Tarleton had a great showing. Teams that are moving to the NCAA or NAIA can compete in the NCWA postseason prior to being eligible for their new league’s postseason (Bellarmine did this last year), but Tarleton is not listed on the NCWA website as a transition team. So I guess they are a few years away from setting that up. I do wonder what conference they are anticipating joining. I believe they are part of the Texas A&M system.
