This was...shockingly good advice that never once dawned on me until I started coaching. I had a HWT, he was a great FB player, he was 6'4 270, he could run all day, he was fine in practice, but he was backing up guys his first 3 years who'd all placed in State. He finally got his shot and he would gas about 90 seconds into the match. It took about 10 minutes until an assistant said 'he's holding his breath.' Well...yeah, you gutted early detection because you had guys who didn't know what the job was, then you gutted funding.
