put coaches in a mat-side Plexiglas booth, open and close air holes at the refs discretion

In order to perfect his form, Gomez needs to kick the leg higher

Forget the Hodge. A wrestler that can dominate a match from the bottom deserves a better award. Maybe call it the "Rented Mule Beats the Ass Ass Beating" Trophy.

So you're saying you really enjoyed the done with the really enjoyed era?

Would Penn State recruit a wrestler who doesn't believe in god?

There is no religion litmus test among wrestlers at PSU. 'nuff said. -
Marinelli picked the wrong religion. As a Hindu the Bull would have been untouchable.

Actually PSU gave up 125 for Lent. Every year.

Star maybe outgrowing false bravado and replacing it with mature confidence?

Barlett scores 5 against Filius! An offensive explosion! -
In that regard Sophomore (ineligible era) = redshirt freshman (today's era). I'd argue that winning as a Sophomore (ineligble era) is an equivalent (or more impressive*) accomplishment than a Freshman redshirt (today's era). Add the year at the end of career instead of the beginning, and it becomes arguable that most of the 3X'ers would have won the 4th. *Arguably more impressive in the Freshmen ineligible era because 1st year wrestlers did not have the advantage of numerous tournaments, RTC competition, etc. For the most part, they were limited to room competition. Now, 4X'ers winning in their true freshman year is a more impressive accomplishment and a different story. (e.g., Dake > Cael)

Wogenrich may not be George Plimpton but he was and still is a competent old-school (Morning Call for almost 30 years) regional sports writer. Wogenrich's words "possibly challenge" are not exactly a Joe Namath level guarantee.

Would the pronouns on Zac's name tag be "III and I"? -
The debate over brash and humble continues - godless, crazy, a**hole, wild, flawed, poor sport! I'm old enough to remember the Cassius Clay controversies when I was a kid. And I'm aware of controversies that predate Ali. The thing is that Ali and others had the talent, skills and charisma to help tilt the cultural bandwagon, making brash the acceptable (and for many the most desirable) cultural choice of later generations. But the occasional humble athlete and the old timers (culturally not necessarily age; in my case both) keep the debate alive. If Cater were on an opposition team he'd be on my villain list for sure. But since I'm a PSU fan I won't pearl clutch on this one. As long as he doesn't go criminal (almost did but coaches stepped in thankfully), I'll sit back and enjoy his wrestling. Over the course of a college career, some colorful personalities turn out alright (e.g., DeSanto) and some not so much (e.g., AJ). Here's to hoping Carter threads the needle and continues his career as colorful and not criminal.

Iowa fans' comments are savage. A PSU great who once slumped can relate! Hang in there Warner!
-
It's telling how PSU and Iowa fans can watch the same match and have opposite takes on who was stalling and boring and who would benefit from more aggressive stall calls, who shows promise, etc. Although I'm more with this guy ( Iowa stalls link), I can appreciate the good points raised by Iowa fans as well as be amused by the more myopic rants. Thanks for the good reads.

There was probably more booing than applause when Lee was introduced. It was mixed. By far more applause than boos at the end. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk -

Nonsense about no ovation. Lee got an ovation. I was there. Fact. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk -
Tom Brands hasn’t seen anyone better than Lee

Lee .. destroyer of worlds. Thanos vs Lee is rumored to be the next Marvel movie. Apparently Thanos erases everyone's ACLs from existence in order to decrease the human population and even worse calls Brands an Orange. Lee is the only person who can still function at a high level and seeks vengeance. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk -
"Never pass up a bar, whether it's on the street or on the mat" -. Not sure but suspect Gray Simons since he was the idol of the coach who kept telling us that Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk

I recall watching a Quentin Wright interview where he mentioned that Cael wasn't in the loop regarding Andrew Long's (dependency and behavioral?) issues while the PSU team members were aware. I believe Cael learned from his errors and communication for non-wrestling issues has now become a priority as a result of that failure. Great head coaches aren't perfect but they learn and adapt. Or maybe he was aware but can't reveal intervention efforts due to privacy concerns. (If Cael writes a tell all book when he retires I'd buy it!) It's difficult to predict whether or not any coach can reel in a loose cannon. I thought Brands and his Iowa teammates did an outstanding job guiding DeSanto. I thought that DeSanto would be toxic and was dead wrong. Maybe Brands - Iowa could have worked for AJ? In the final analysis support systems can do everything right and a person can still go wrong.
