Has anyone in here said Iowa State yet? Tom and Terry ran circles around Dresser yesterday.
-
The reasons are overhead. When I say an independent review team I mean a full set of guys, not just another ref. If you watch any reviews on the international circuit you see a full three gents looking at the monitor while they do it. You can't do that at any level aside for the B1G... maybe ACC/B12 as well, but the rest won't have the resources to do it. The reasoning is that when/if they were to do it, it would need to be done the same way across the board.
-
No, they wrestled the 1 second of that match. My mind might be fuzzy as of now - a lot of Jagerbombs and as a 56 year old man they make things fuzzy. I thought there was something there with clock management that made this match controversial as well as there being two instances where Chittum 'nearly' had the TD, not just the one that was reviewed. In any case you can take that one back and it is still 40% of the matches where he dropped the ball just purely as a coach. Getting $300k a year? He doesn't deserve that this year after that one.
-
There were two there, weren't there? One in the second and one at the end? I don't think they reviewed both? Also the timeclock being different/wrong. Wasn't that this match?
-
Which is precisely why there should be an independent review team. I understand not doing it for duals, because that is a lot of extra overhead, but for large tournaments. On the international level you see it. It keeps refs honest. Edit: If it is one thing aside for Dresser getting completely outcoached that we all can agree on, I think it is that the refs last night were not honest. How does Iowa outpace Iowa State in takedowns yet get called twelve times for stalling where Iowa State got zero calls? Please refer to the Carr-Caliendo match for example. Caliendo first got called for stalling while he was actively attempting to circle, set up a shot, and shoot... WHILE SHOOTING!

Still a lot of folks pissing and moaning on Twatter about the 'noncall' or 'timeclock' thing being a thing. And because he had dropped the ball elsewhere, it is easy to point fingers at him for that one too.

Senior Nationals (US Olympic Trials Qualifier) - Dec. 15-17

I think guys can steal spots here. I think it is Last Chance where they cannot enter if they are already qualified. -
TLDR. I just wanted to come in and say that regardless of what my vote might have been for before, after last night I don't see a way the vote isn't Tom and Terry. They just outcoached the shit out of Dresser and it wasn't even close. The running them for Iowa State last night was this... 141 - Dresser: Year I messed up there. 157 - Dresser: Yeah I messed up there. 174 - Dresser: Yeah I messed up there. 184 - Dresser: Yeah I messed up there. 197 - Dresser: Yeah I messed up there. Five matches, or 5/10 where he dropped the ball as the HC. I am curious if they consider swapping Broderson and Feldkamp at this point for some duals, because Broderson at 197 did not want to be there against a Fringe T24 type guy in Glazier. What do you think he is going to do against the brutes of 197 in Hidlay, Beard, Brooks, Poznanski, Surber, Smith, Joles, Allred, etc... or the guys that are so much longer in Elam, Sloan, Shaw, Cardenas, etc?

I think an in-shape PK can potentially score more at 174 because of the lack of depth there compared to 165 right now. Right now he needs to get his cardio under him or go on the Spencer Lee diet of trying to ensure first period Techs. Right now his cardio is a big problem and I am not willing to give him any points at 174. Once he gets the cardio under his belt we can entertain his options at 174. He is small, or at least he looked small against Gaitan... which is surprising because PK dwarfed Facundo when they met at WNO, 170lbs (PK coming down from 182lbs and Facundo coming up from 160lbs). I don't think strength will be a problem for him, but I don't know that he is even at ~175lbs right now. He looks closer to 165lbs than 174lbs. At 174 right now this is what I have for Tiers: - Tier 1 - Stalrocci, Penn State - Tier 2 - EMPTY - Tier 3 - Lewis, Virginia Tech Griffith, Michigan - Tier 4 - Kharchla, the Ohio State Ruth, Illinois Mocco, Mizzou Wittlake, Oregon State - Tier 5 - Gaitan, Iowa State Washington, Indiana Kemp, Cal Poly DeVos, South Dakota State Conigliaro, Harvard O'Malley, Drexel Incontera, Penn Brennan, Arkansas-Little Rock Right now I put PK firmly in 'Tier 5' but if he gets a gas tank under him he could get up to a 'Tier 4' sort of level. That puts his peak potential at around 4th place, but he could lose to anyone in Tier 4 and Tier 5 still - keeping in mind in my 'tier' systems you can beat a guy up or down a tier from you and not have it be a big surprise. I see what you are saying about Feldkamp, however I don't think he was horsing Gabe around... I think he was using length/leverage - which Feldkamp does to everyone and then uses that leverage to walk away via a Pinfell victory. Gabe was able to counter that with superior hips as well as being stronger (him circling each time was a sign that strength was not a problem). I am not an Iowa fan... you all know this. I am a Michigander (UofM, MSU, CMU, Michigan kids) then B1G then MAC. You guys know this. That said, if he goes 184, I think his peak potential at 184 is the same as 174. He might now be beating Keckeisen or Sta(l)rocci, but he is right in there to beat anyone else at either of those weights. Kennedy isn't doing anything at 184. He was small and without a tank against 174lb Gaitan. Imagine what those matches look like last night had they done Kennedy at 184 and Arnold at 174. Commical, probably, and Feldkamp likely decks Kennedy - giving Iowa State the victory. At the end of the day you aren't convincing me that Arnold, who beat Wittlake (Wittlake lost to Munoz 4-3 last year at 184, btw) and Feldkamp (7th at 184 last year) wouldn't be able to do something at 184, were he given the chance. EDIT: As a disclaimer, my Tiers might be missing a gent or two in Tier 4/5. I am okay with that. I wasn't trying to list 77 gents out in Tier order and I don't like going past Tier 5.

Until the 2nd semester starts he must be attached, I thought.
-
No connection. A fan of his style of wrestling, even if he is undersized at 184.
-
I said in the OP. Parker Keckeisen should be there.
-
If you are Iowa, with Kennedy back and presumably donning the 1-7-4 for them for this season, what do you do at 184 with Swafford and Arnold? This is what I would do: Wrestle him attached at 184 at the Soldier Salute. Parker Keckeisen should be there. Also, you enter Swafford and maybe even Riggins? That becomes his 4th weigh-in. You then wrestle him unattached in an open or three until the Penn State dual. Meanwhile Swafford is still manning the spot. Hell, maybe Swafford ends up being the guy. I would be super cool with that and am actually disappointed we didn't get to see him tonight. That said, if he can beat either Keckeisen and/or Truax I think you burn it. He would probably get three at the Soldier Salute, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma State to put him at 13 matches prior yo B1Gs at the very least. He can probably get anywhete from ?6-12?matches while wrestling unattached at a few different opens (Edinboro, Kauffman, Don Parker, Last Chance to name a few possible). Thoughts?

Rojas at 197 for Iowa State anyone?
-
That isn't an upset for some folks, btw. I need to see Arnold against Stalrocci.
-
One more stalling for Arnold and it is tied here.
-
Does Iowa put Swafford out against Broderson?
-
Tom looking like he is going to cry...
-
Going in to this, if I know PK is going I am favoring him, but not to the point where I am sayimg that Gaitan needs to avoid bonus. I would thinknit closer than that. PK looks great here, though.
-
For a guy who wrestled 182 in high school PK looks small.
-
Brain called it. PK against Gaitan.
-
I don't understand how Caliendo got called for stalling there at all. Edit: Referring his first two of the match.
