Agreed. When he gets guys moving, he can create angles. But he seems to pull on the head a lot and tire guys out and still shoot straight on. From the top, he is a half decent rider and looks for turns, but he needs to work on his bottom game, especially against tough riders and better opponents

Haines now up. Haines is always working for points not just riding. 8-2 win. 13-8 PSU over IU at the break.
-
SVN finally getting back to some offense. 3 TDs in the first. Adds 3 more TDs in the second and third with a minute to go. Adds some nearfall and RT to end 17-5.
-
Bartlett with a 12 second pin. It actually looked faster since the ref was caught off guard
-
Shunk loses to IU in OT on a TD. PSU down 8-0 to the mighty mild midwesterners
-
I guess Cael and company feel it won't hurt RBY's or Brooks' seeing at Big Tens to rest them
-
Vespa tech-ed. No RBY. Shunk going. Guess this is JV (back up) day
-
Donovan Ball going for PSU at 184 in place of Brooks.

Also occurring at 2 PM on BTN is Illinois vs. Michigan State.

Let's get at it. Starocci is proclaiming wrathful vengeance on Donnell Washington, who beat him in a wild match his first year. Not a good look in my view, especially if he doesn't major him or beat him worse, but let's see what transpires. #1 Penn State WT #22 Indiana Gary Steen (Fr., Hermitage, PA) 125 Jacob Moran (Jr., Portage, IN) #1 - Roman Bravo-Young (Sr., Tucson, AZ) 133 #29 - Henry Porter (Fr., Gilroy, CA) #5 - Beau Bartlett (Jr., Tempe, AZ) 141 Cayden Rooks (Sr., Columbus, IN) #13 - Shayne Van Ness (Fr., Somerville, NJ) 149 #30 - Graham Rooks (Sr., Columbus, IN) #9 - Levi Haines (Fr., Arendtsville, PA) 157 Derek Gilcher (Jr., Novi, MI) #8 - Alex Facundo (Fr., Essexville, MI) 165 Nick South (Jr., North Vernon, IN) #1 - Carter Starocci (Jr., Erie, PA) 174 #15 - DJ Washington (Jr., Portage, IN) #1 - Aaron Brooks (Sr., Hagerstown, MD) 184 Clayton Fielden (Jr., Garret, IN) #4 - Max Dean (Sr., Lowell, MI) 197 Nick Willham (Sr., Greenwood, IN) #2 - Greg Kerkvliet (So., Grove Heights, MN) 285 #28 - Jacob Bullock (Sr., Cahokia, IL)

Spencer Lee is an amazing two minute college wrestler 🤼♀️
SocraTease replied to Wrassler's topic in College Wrestling
In PennSSSSSSSylvania, we say things like "He placed at Sectionals, Districts, Regionals and States". There are, of course, multiple divisions (AA and AAA) in PA. Not sure if this helps to fully explain the use of the plural, but, hey, its traditional language in this neck of the country. Maybe we also just like the serpent's sibilant "S". -
Perhaps he was getting ready to emulate the Iraqi who threw shoes at George Bush the Younger or he couldn't find the challenge brick to toss onto the mat:

I would love to see a pay per view match where a kangaroo kicked the living crap out of Ford Pinto. On the undercard, a dancing bear could take on a heavyweight, RBY could "rassle" and mongoose or small panther ... so many possibilities.
-
RBY could possibly lose to the Speed of Light if they wrestled. He has tech-ed the Speed of Sound already, however. Aside: there is a 6 minute video clip of FLO making the case that RBY is the fastest (I would say quickest) wrestler in the NCAAs today and maybe of all time. I think it's a hand's down case at least for the former claim and maybe also the latter. He certainly passes the eyeball test. And I would love to see him grapple both a mongoose and cobra at some point. https://www.flowrestling.org/collections/10273249-rby-straight-outta-tucson/video?playing=10474484

As Donald Rumsfeld (a former wrestler by the way) famously put it: "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know." https://unherd.com/thepost/what-wrestling-taught-donald-rumsfeld-about-power-and-pain/ -

Will there be another vision quest a la DeSanto who took out Lee in his only high school loss in the final at States? Will there be another Larry Owings, who took out Dan Gable to give him his only college loss in the NCAA finals? Will there be another Rulon Gardner who took out Aleksandr Karelin (one of the greatest wrestlers ever, who had a 13 year winning streak) in the Olympic finals to end the Russian's career? Will there be another Mario Lopez (aka A.C. Slater) in "Saved by the Bell" who .... (what the hell did he do anyway)? -
One possible approach to beating Lee for a top 5 or 10 wrestler. 1. Slow down and stall (if necessary) for the first period. Better to give up stall points (e.g., play the edge) than takedowns or turns. 2. Give up no more than 6 points to Lee in the first (or 8 tops). Coaches and fans should push for arm bars to be ruled as potentially dangerous 3. Choose top in the second. 4. Ride Lee very hard. Tire him as much as you can. 5. Keep him from scoring a TD if he escapes. Stall if necessary. 6. Take Lee to the 3rd period. 7. Wrestle your butt off. Get a TD or two as Lee tires. Yes, it's possible. 8. Go for a cradle or another big move (cow catcher; Turk). Try to win on points or a pin or even going to OT (Has Lee ever been in an OT match?) Easier said than done. It helps if you have some length, a good gas tank, and some flexibility to avoid arm bars.

Minnesota snatches defeat from the jaws of victory at 133.
-
It's okay. I can last longer than 3 minutes
-
I don't see this version of Lee taking out Gilman, who has good positioning and defense. And Gilman won't have to go under Lee in freestyle
-
Spencer Lee is ... almost the Musukaev (sp?) of folk style wrestling. He has everything in the first period and next to nothing in the 2nd and 3rd periods. I think he is actually vulnerable if you keep it to 6 point or under in the first.
