  1. I prefer David Taylor's idea. You get riding time if you turn a guy. If you don't, no RT. It encourages action. If you can't turn a guy, you need to let him up and score another way. I would even be okay if the top man is put on a 30 second clock. No turn, then action returns to the feet.
  2. Great post. For some reason, it reminds me of a poem by Beatnik writer Gregory Corso called "Marriage" (see link below). Of course, after all the interesting discussion and analysis of the Hodge (the Saturday as opposed to Monday morning quarterbacking) , it is probably going to come down to very subjective voters who (and votes that) may not follow the stipulated criteria. Someone might be robbed. Someone might claim the election was rigged or stolen. Someone might even be searching for years for their missing (and imaginary) 11,780 votes (in Georgia). So the "best man" (note the marriage metaphor) may not win. But if he is damn lucky, perhaps he will go home with a bawdy bridesmaid ... and a participation trophy. https://www.litkicks.com/Texts/Marriage.html
  3. Not much discussion here recently of RBY as a Hodge candidate. especially if Lee falters. RBY has no losses this year. Has won something like 50 in a row (can't recall the exact number but it's close to that). If he closes it out, he will be a three time champ. And right now he has an 82 percent bonus rate. Also taking out Fix twice (or perhaps even three times) is no small feat given that Fix is a World Silver medalist Plus RBY should get extra points for his entertaining style. He won't but he is fun to watch.
  4. Did Hodge ever win the Hodge? Whoops, didn't see this was already mentioned (above).
  5. Milo of Croton (the greatest ancient Greek wrestler) vs. Aleksandr Alekandrovich Karelin (the great Russian Bear and Greco-Roman wrestler) https://greekreporter.com/2022/05/05/milo-of-croton-wrestler-strongest-greek/
  6. Marjorie Taylor Greene vs. Andy Kaufman (Inter-gender battles a la Billy Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs)
  7. Kerk 17-0 win. TD and lots of 4 points turns as well as a few stalling points. Two exhibitions after the official meet. One looks like Evans from PSU Final score: 35-8
  8. Pin for Dean at 197 in the first period. Looks like Kerk at 285
  9. Ball wins 10-3 at 184 in place of Brooks
  10. Ball up 2-0 on a nice TD. My guess is we might see Nevills at 285
  11. So Starocci has avenged his only two NCAA losses: one to Kemmerer in the finals and one just now.
  12. Washington gets the initial TD but then C.S. takes control and wins 11-3. Some extracurricular pushing and intensity at the end as C.S. puts Washington's arm on his back and tries to crank him. Coaches come out on the mat to separate these two. For C.S. this is obviously (too) personal
  13. Facundo now putting on a TD clinic. 20-9 final
  14. Agreed. When he gets guys moving, he can create angles. But he seems to pull on the head a lot and tire guys out and still shoot straight on. From the top, he is a half decent rider and looks for turns, but he needs to work on his bottom game, especially against tough riders and better opponents
  15. Haines now up. Haines is always working for points not just riding. 8-2 win. 13-8 PSU over IU at the break.
  16. SVN finally getting back to some offense. 3 TDs in the first. Adds 3 more TDs in the second and third with a minute to go. Adds some nearfall and RT to end 17-5.
  17. Bartlett with a 12 second pin. It actually looked faster since the ref was caught off guard
  18. Shunk loses to IU in OT on a TD. PSU down 8-0 to the mighty mild midwesterners
  19. I guess Cael and company feel it won't hurt RBY's or Brooks' seeing at Big Tens to rest them
  20. Vespa tech-ed. No RBY. Shunk going. Guess this is JV (back up) day
  21. Donovan Ball going for PSU at 184 in place of Brooks.
  22. Also occurring at 2 PM on BTN is Illinois vs. Michigan State.
  23. Let's get at it. Starocci is proclaiming wrathful vengeance on Donnell Washington, who beat him in a wild match his first year. Not a good look in my view, especially if he doesn't major him or beat him worse, but let's see what transpires. #1 Penn State WT #22 Indiana Gary Steen (Fr., Hermitage, PA) 125 Jacob Moran (Jr., Portage, IN) #1 - Roman Bravo-Young (Sr., Tucson, AZ) 133 #29 - Henry Porter (Fr., Gilroy, CA) #5 - Beau Bartlett (Jr., Tempe, AZ) 141 Cayden Rooks (Sr., Columbus, IN) #13 - Shayne Van Ness (Fr., Somerville, NJ) 149 #30 - Graham Rooks (Sr., Columbus, IN) #9 - Levi Haines (Fr., Arendtsville, PA) 157 Derek Gilcher (Jr., Novi, MI) #8 - Alex Facundo (Fr., Essexville, MI) 165 Nick South (Jr., North Vernon, IN) #1 - Carter Starocci (Jr., Erie, PA) 174 #15 - DJ Washington (Jr., Portage, IN) #1 - Aaron Brooks (Sr., Hagerstown, MD) 184 Clayton Fielden (Jr., Garret, IN) #4 - Max Dean (Sr., Lowell, MI) 197 Nick Willham (Sr., Greenwood, IN) #2 - Greg Kerkvliet (So., Grove Heights, MN) 285 #28 - Jacob Bullock (Sr., Cahokia, IL)
  24. In PennSSSSSSSylvania, we say things like "He placed at Sectionals, Districts, Regionals and States". There are, of course, multiple divisions (AA and AAA) in PA. Not sure if this helps to fully explain the use of the plural, but, hey, its traditional language in this neck of the country. Maybe we also just like the serpent's sibilant "S".
  25. Perhaps he was getting ready to emulate the Iraqi who threw shoes at George Bush the Younger or he couldn't find the challenge brick to toss onto the mat:
