Call Kevorkian from his grave.
-
Clearly not the premise of the OP's hypothetical, but d!ck$ will be d!ck$.
-
He'd be a multiple AA and win one or two championships after a grayshirt, redshirt, and Olympic redshirt. He'd have plenty of tutors and an appropriate course load to ensure his eligibility. (Somebody had to throw the OP a bone.)

Updated Team Rankings 12/13/2022

To make the NWCA All Star matches seem more relevant because they stream it. To eliminate extra work of evaluating injury results separate from widely available records. Objectively, Flo does whatever acts in what it believes is its best interest (promote their products at minimum cost). -
I was a sophomore, unfortunately. A toast, "To all the late bloomers, those who were small in stature but were and remain big hearted."

I guess a 'release' is like a 'write off'. Only the people who do it know what it is, and they're the only ones who need to know.
-
In plain language means 'If the NCAA needs to know whether Wisconsin thinks Kyle Burwick should be able to wrestle without loss of eligibility, they do. They support that decision by the NCAA.' You know, like supporting a candidate for office. Doesn't mean that candidate wins. It doesn't mean they are jumping through hoops to put pressure on the NCAA to make the decision. You know, like voting for a candidate but not donating to or volunteering to canvas for their campaign. Obtuse cuts both ways. Wisconsin clearly put their position on the record, and surely Kyle's request for waiver can reference it. What release of what from what? That is the most vague part of it all. What if it is a financial release from partial reimbursement of scholarship money? What if that is not the Wisconsin AD's call?
-
Hard to speculate without knowing the process the NCAA is using. As wrestling coaches work for the Athletic Department, I would think they'd tend to align themselves and comply with their employer's wishes. Anyways, the Wisconsin AD and administration says the decision on immediate eligibility is in the hands of the NCAA, and that they support the NCAA making Burwick immediately eligible. That seems clear from their Tweet.

I read it. Sorry I used the trigger phrase "If true." I was only doing it to emphasize his decision wasn’t necessarily predicated on Lamont's arrival, which seems relevant to Kyle's case. Things could've been much easier if Kyle had a clear execption case for his waiver request to the NCAA. Says he considered transferring after his season ended. Says he didn't talk in person with coaches until June 13th (after entering portal about two weeks earlier). Doesn't say he hadn't communicated in other ways about his considering leaving Wisconsin with the Wisconsin coaches or someone who might've informed Wisconsin coaches. Doesn't say he didn't communicate with the coaches by means other than in person. I Infer from it that his rationale is he should be allowed to compete without loss of eligibility solely because he didn't know the May 1st deadline because Wisconsin didn't inform him. Wisconsin AD is on public record stating it supports Kyle's immediate eligibility. Indicates he believes the transfer process he is in requires Wisconsin to grant him a release. I wish I knew where the NCAa defined that process.

How common is a full ride?
98lberEating2Lunches replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
According to the new rule, nothing less than a new minimum scholarship amount (20 or 25% I think) these days, when one is on a scholarship. Don't know the degree, but I expect that will affect the number of full rides. -
"work with us" Interesting word choice. Could be read as meeting us half-way to ensure Kyle doesn't lose a year of eligibility, regardless of potential half-truths. Or could be read as return our calls and/or provide Kyle's records to support the exception in our waiver request to the NCAA.

(I saw no answer.) What did @Husker_Du confirm? Who is 'they'? What is written on 'the form/paper?' Who created the form and for what purpose is it being 'signed?' For all I know, 'they' is the NCAA, and the paper is Kyle's exception documentation to obtain a waiver. Just maybe Askren assumed the 'they' was Wisconsin. And just maybe @Husker_Du enjoys making Flo personalities look like asshats.

Can someone find a rule on portal transfers that says the transferring-from school needs to provide a release? I looked but couldn't find one. The only 'releases' I've seen is from NLIs and 90-days for contact of someone in the portal. If this is true, then it would appear to undercut any claim that Kyle's transfer was motivated by a looming replacement by Taylor Lamont. Taylor Lamont's arrival could even be a contingency action by Bono. Furthermore, if true, then Kyle's exception to obtain a waiver would seem to need to be based on his earlier considerations toward transferring. I don't really doubt Manning said the quote. I do doubt that its meaning is clear and reflects a reasonable action Bono and the Wisconsin AD could take on Kyle's behalf. The amount of silence from Nebraska representatives since that quote could be seen as perhaps some recognition of originally barking up the wrong tree or howling at the moon.

An athlete needs a qualifying exception to get the waiver from the NCAA. "Release" is a pre-portal term.
-
If they didn't want him to leave the program. Plenty have entered the portal and stayed at their current school. Sure after he leaves the school, that's a different matter. The problem is he entered after May 1 and waivers are looking for some exception hardship. Not being informed about the May 1st date may not cut it. Bono and the Wisconsin AD may be disputing the circumstances documented in whatever waiver exception that Nebraska sent to the NCAA on Kyle's behalf (assuming they are involved like if the NCAA asked them to confirm). They might do so in the interest of their own integrity and what they believe is in the best interest of the Wisconsin wrestling program.
-
One may be removed from scholarship once they enter the portal, but that is at the transferring-from school's discretion. Of course one can't maintain their original scholarship after they transfer. Do you know for a fact Bono and Wisconsin AD withdrew Burwick's scholarship upon learning he entered the portal after May 1? I've seen nothing that claimed that.

What exactly that says what?

Who got "recruited over"?
98lberEating2Lunches replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Neither means they were recruited over. There is more than one weight the last time I checked. Hoffman went 184 the first year at tOSU, if I'm not mistaken. Beard had been committed to Northwestern. Bubba and Taylor could've managed to man two different weights. Same could've been the case for Hoffman and Beard. You've a odd definition of "recruit" and a some ability to foresee possible future weights between pairs with certainly that I clearly lack. I doubt you're implying tampering has gone on, so I don't see how Dean or Kerkvliet could fit in, since they were enrolled elsewhere and transferred. -
According to 24/7 Sports waivers: "The NCAA grants waivers for immediate eligibility for a variety of reasons, almost all of which center around an athlete being forced to transfer for reasons outside of their control. Common assertions in waiver appeals include a player’s mental health, a player was run-off, a player left due to egregious behavior or a player who needs to move closer to home because of a sick family member." Kyle's waiver could've asserted Bono ran him off thru Lamont's arrival, as the primary exception claim. Bono may reasonably be unwilling to characterize things that way, in the interest of his program and consideration of potential negative recruiting. Bono could claim Kyle's scholarship was being honored and he could've stayed and compete for the starting position. Alas, now it seems to have devolved into a frustrating situation for Kyle and Nebraska.

Where is anyone providing specific information about the post May 1 portal entry waiver process (roles and expectations) among transferring-to school, NCAA, and transferring-from school (if any)? I don't see a role in the rule for the transferring-from school. It is easy to assume and ascribe ill-intent to Wisconsin, if the goal is to disparage the University a la negative recruiting. I just haven't bought in the that line of thinking. What is needed are specifics not generalities to shed light on the current state of the situation. If Wisconsin found out they had no further role, then Manning indicating Wisconsin's saying they're doing everything in Kyle's best interest is a fallacy, then that statement could be seen in a different light. Wisconsin may think they did all they could by admitting they didn't inform their athletes.
-
I read the early November stuff. I mean did people even understand the process then for post May 1 port entries? The anecdotal evidemce says no, right? Read Manning's wife posted Wisconsin coach had to sign a release. But people stuck in old ways of B1G intra-conference transfers might say that. And people pop off lll-onformed on social media all thd time. Looking for a recent statement, if there is one.
-
What role does Wisconsin have in helping? I don't believe they have any. Is trashing Wisconsin (Burwick initially) or Askren (as a surrogate for Nebraska coaches) going to engender help from Wisconsin? Nope, it's not an effective strategy. I don't believe the old B1G intra-conference transfer rule is still in play, is it? Where did Manning state this? Link please.
-
Mhmmm.... Who would have asked or required Wisconsin to sign a paper, for what purpose, and to fulfill what requirement of the waiver rule? Sounds like it could be the telephone game (speaker using pronouns and listener assuming who the subject is). But I suppose Nebraska could've asked Wisconsin to sign-off on something to bolster its waiver request. I just don't know why Nebraska would or why Wisconsin would bother with something that's not required by rule. I think 'they' could actually refer to the NCAA.

Who is "they"? Who stated and what's their credibility? What is being waited for? That's what's old, unsubstantiated hypothesis that something new is in play.

Who got "recruited over"?
98lberEating2Lunches replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
How did Beard replace Hoffman when Hoffman never wrestled for PSU? How was David Taylor recruited over Bubba Jenkins, when David was recruited to ISU then followed his coach? How were either Kerkvliet recruited as replacements when they transferred? Is this where the puff pastry references come in? How about Figueroa over Courtney
