I also think the weakness of 57 currently will improve his medal chances. Also as crazy as it sounds he is a better fit for 57 than 61 based on his current frame. His body recomp has been really impressive, he posted the change recently.
I would be shocked if Cannon isn't Ohio State's 165 next year. He looks massive at 74kg and dwarfed some guys who normally wrestle 165—also teched Birden. They have lots of options for 157- Paddy or Birden suck down, Chittum doesn't use redshirt- Shaw goes as a true freshman- Stiles moves back up to 157 and 149 is filled by Bouzakis. Curious how they will sort it out
Brandon Cannon with an insane performance at 74kg. Lost in rd2 to Cardenas, wins 12 straight matches to come back and get 3rd place. Went 13-1 overall in the tournament.
Ryan had a recent interview and said that Nic-Davino wrestle off loser will be filling in all season between 133/141 and getting lots of matches. Sounds like they gave up on the potential 125 experiment
He is competing for their RTC today so looks like they were successful. They don't have a pressing need for him in the college lineup this year but if something happens and they need someone at 157/165 I could see them offering him some nice NIL to come back for second sem
Nininger is legit, Bassett was just a little too much for him in some positions but he has made a ton of jumps in HS, I could see him being a legit 141/149 for VT
@poorwrestler Tommy Askey wrestling at U23s! Any chance he uses his last year of eligibility for the Gophers or is he done with college but sticking around the room?
Predictions I am confident in now
57: Lee in 2
92: Hidlay in 2
97: Snyder in 2
125: Wyatt in 2
I want to see Duke at U20s before I finalize 70. 74 and 79 I have a lean but I want to watch some matches back before locking in. 61 and 65 I have a gut feeling lean but these are brand new matchups so I don't know. 86 I will be flip flopping all the way.
For my preseason dark horses last year I had Barr as High AA, McGonagle Top 6 and Steed top 6 (just ignore the rest of my picks)
My bold prediction for this year, this far out, is going to be Zach Ryder National Champ at 174
Willie said something similar- said he wasn't sure if it was grades/transfer compatibility issues/ etc. but said he heard TJ was sorting out some stuff with that
Oh I think it was, but also any google search of AJ will get you the double birds photo, and the rabbit hole from there is pretty easy to fall into.
Mineo already posted (then deleted) the article calling it a hit piece. He also seems to think someone quoted in the article is responsible for the article itself? Which idek what to do with
Mineo is reporting that AJ's NIL got voided as part of it. He is close with the family I am sure he got this from that camp. That article may have been part of it, but it is not anything special. It is the basic facts about AJ (including his past legal case) and includes quotes from Pyles about him, as well as from someone speaking out against bringing him in. Considering it is the University Paper and was written by a student I hope AJ fanboys do not attack/blame the author.
And followed that up by placing 3rd at WTT up at 74kg. Beating Quincy Monday and outplacing NCAA Finalist Caliendo and AA's Hall, Barraclough and Scott. And probably more I am forgetting
