  1. Well, Lewan is not going to be able to stall his way through this one
  2. Certainly wrestled him closer than anyone expected. These greats get challenged so seldomly that you wonder if they can handle the nerves/conditioning of a close match. If Murin did get two there, I would've like Yianni to score a TD in OT.
  3. Zapf eliminates Paniro Johnson. Gauntlet to AA looks to include Caleb Henson (who he beat at Keystone) then Yayha Thomas.
  4. Yianni was on top of Murin. By rule, that can't be back points.
  5. God bless offense!
  6. Anyone who gets a choice against Lee should take top, and not just because of what we saw in the Noto match.
  7. Quint: What made the difference, Liam? Liam: Being allowed as many years as possible to make AA definitely helped.
  8. Wyatt Hendrickson is a bad man
  9. Well, at least Soldano is moving on. Nothing like a good wrestler like Malczewski not knowing how to fight off his back and swinging both legs in the air so he can rest squarely on his shoulders.
  10. And Columbia comes through with the upset of Finesilver.
  11. Can Penn get credit for this win?
  12. During. Everyone is back tonight.
  13. So much for worrying abou that potential rematch with Monday.
  14. Worked before now at a pretty high level, even during his redshirt year. Video study has a way of exposing your secrets.
  15. Are people figuring out Facundo?
  16. Well, that's 10 minutes of our lives we'll never have back.
  17. With Poulin (among other seeds) going down, maybe it's time to start talking about the NCAA's seeding formula...
  18. Tim Johnson mentioning Liam Cronin is a 7-year wrestler like it's no big deal...
  19. Echoes of Joe Smith-Alex Marinelli a couple years back
  20. Many of us on these boards remember when the DII and DIII champs did a lot of damage at the NCAA DI tournament: Carlton Haselrig of UPJ, Karl Monaco of Montclair State, just to name a couple wrestlers. I believe the NCAA ended DII and DIII participation in all NCAA DI championships (track, too) in order to "preserve the integrity of competition within each division". I don't believe this change did any favors to DII or DIII wrestling.

  22. Fixed the note on Artalona.
  23. So, the answer is pettiness. There are reasons I don't miss being involved as closely with college sports as much as I used to be... You may be asking, is there any way to overrule the seeds, since this is a calculation done via computer with very little common sense? The answer is "yes, of course!" Without giving away all of the details, there is a way to "challenge" a seed if within a certain number of seeding points to the wrestler above. Because Yianni and Glory were outside of this threshold, there is one final step in the process to get the final seeds "correct." The EIWA calls it the outlier rule. When Glory's 2nd seed was challenged as an outlier (but still outside of that challengeable criteria), 13 of the 17 (75%) coaches needed to vote yes to overturn and give him the top seed. It only took five votes to block these challenges from happening. The same situation occurred for Yianni's seed at 149 lbs. https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/26547
  24. I'm guessing this is a points based system and that obvious errors - Yianni did beat Zapf in the dual - will be fixed. However, I for one am happy to see some punishment for wrestlers with few matches and obvious "ducks".
  25. Final pre-tournament rankings from the EIWA below. I'd be surprised if the Top 8 seeds differ from what is posted. https://www.eiwawrestling.org/sports/wrest/2022-23/releases/20230222bn3jq9
