  1. So, the book is out on Mesenbrink - be 7 feet tall and choose top. Cole Urbas is licking his chops.
  2. Late 2nd period. Wrong way Cowcatcher, then kept adjusting on top for a minute. Typical explosive Gomez.
  3. So, Lewan is actually going to have to wrestle.
  4. Did not see Ayala’s domination of Provo coming. At least one Hawkeye was ready to wrestle today.
  5. Is there a rule against halo headgear? I hated the style of headgear worn now by everyone, in part because of that snap,
  6. McKee didn’t know what to do after winning his 1st round match at NCAAs
  7. No it's not, but Conigliaro was overseeded given his two losses at EIWAs. He's picking a bad time of the season to be wrestling his worst.
  8. Seems like he could've easily teched Nevills just shooting to Nevills right leg on that last takedown. Heck, I thought he was going to tech Nevills in the 1st after the first exchnage.
  9. Hendrickson is being too aggressive, just like in the Bastida match. First minute of chain wrestling was brilliant. He needs to realize when to dial it back. Lack of competition in the room/during the season is probably not helping.
  10. World's largest fighter pilot making little Nevills look silly.
  11. I think he's going to get a lift in after this match.
  12. Every good Zach Glazier vibe may have just gone out the window.
  13. Is any team actually having a good round this morning? VT?
  14. Haslerig was a true freak. That being said, a wrestler like Haselrig - or more appropriately, Karl Monaco of Montclair State and Dan Russell of Portland State - knew they could stay close to home and still be eligible to wrestle at the D1 meet. The decision to restrict the D1 tourney to just D1 teams/athletes in the early 1990s has helped reduce the quality of D2 and D3 wrestling.
  15. Which is why I'm curious why the press is saying this a great hire for NC State... Again, not every great wrestler is a great coach.
  16. Two questions: 1) What prompted Esposito to leave OSU in the first place? 2) If Esposito did truly want the USA Wrestling position, what's going on in Colorado Springs?
  17. I just hope somebody - anybody - talks to the ridiculousness of Fix's participation in this year's tourney on ESPN's telecast this year and to the fact that he could've taken his 2nd ORS and been competing next season. In team sports, these extra years, COVID and otherwise, are killing chances for high school athletes to join college teams. This will trickle into individual sports like wrestling if this nonsense is not stopped.
  18. Better at Greco than at field dressing a moose in a hurry, apparently. Pretty sure his title was at the Cadet level. Dallas Seavey almost took a different path in the sports world. He was the first Alaskan to win a USA national wrestling championship when he took the 125-pound Greco-Roman title in 2003 and trained for a year at the U.S. Olympic Training Center before concussions led him to back to mushing. https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/39719071/dallas-seavey-breaks-record-sixth-iditarod-victory
  19. Fun article on how Mike Rotunda ended up joining the Syracuse wrestling team. Also, a link to the 1981 EIWA bracket, which Mike won at UNL. Lots of familiar names in what was a two team race between Cuse and Lehigh, including two all-time greats for the Engineers. Shame to see all of the schools that have dropped wrestling since. https://www.syracuse.com/sports/2024/03/former-syracuse-football-player-wrestler-part-of-wwe-hall-of-fame-class-of-2024.html https://wrestlingstats.com/eiwa/pdf/brackets/EIWA 1981.pdf
  20. I feel good about it. Assuming he qualifies, Swisher is going to be a land mine at NCAAs. Also, Penn is good at math.
  21. I'd argue we need less sets in men's tennis. Joker, Nadal, etc. and their 5 and 6 hour matches have made the game unwatchable except for purists.
  22. The lack of a 1500 for women was sexist. I've worked in TV for 30 years. The timing by FINA/World Aquatics to include a 1500 for women when Ledecky was the biggest US swimming star, as the US generates half of the TV rights revenue for the IOC, was not coincidental. https://www.statista.com/statistics/199938/broadcast-rights-fees-of-the-olympic-games-since-1998/
  23. 800 might be in contest, but the FINA/World Aquatics added the 1,500 for women last cycle to "give" Ledecky another gold medal and that still seems assured for these games and maybe even 2028. That being said, Caitlan Clark is winning this year's award by in a walk.
  24. No longer in effect. EIWA site reports Wilkes only sent 6 wrestlers to the tourney in 1996. (I thought they had started the tourney -15.) Pretty sure the rule was changed shortly thereafter. https://eiwawrestling.org/results/EIWA_results_1996.pdf
  25. I would joke that Michigan doesn’t have any takedowns thru 4 matches, but the non-Mesenbrink tally for Penn State is not impressive, either
