Yes it would be. Because in the situation that actually happened, Neely was just yelling and acting crazy but that was it. He didn't actually harm anyone or even try harming anyone. I'm sure his behavior was unnerving to people around him, but it didn't sound like it rose to the level where deadly force was necessary to subdue him.
-
That isn't relevant.

I think he's guilty. People who have that kind of knowledge and training know what appropriate use of force is. If I killed somebody under those circumstances, I'd be guilty too. I think the problem is the excessive use of force. You can easily get caught up in the moment, adrenaline is going, I get that. But if you kill somebody then you have to face some kind of consequences. This wasn't like a fist fight where somebody got hit in the head and died accidentally. This was a guy who had already subdued somebody he felt was a threat, and held onto his neck in a choke for too long and killed him. It wasn't premeditated, it doesn't sound like he was a particular sort to be an asshole, he just got caught up and unfortunately he killed somebody. I think the charges he's facing are appropriate.

I think her home country is too conservative for that to happen. But if it did, I don't think it would make a big difference to her, because in her view, that would mean she didn't work hard enough to win that spot. It's a much different mentality for her, winning is basically what matters. When she went to worlds 6 years ago and lost in the first round to a girl she had beaten by tech fall at some other tournament, there wasn't any kind of woe is me feeling sorry for herself. Literally the next day she was drilling at 6am obsessively. Things like whether somebody is transgender don't register or take up any thoughts because it just distracted from thinking about how to win.

WeeWillie needs to pay his gambling losses somehow.

My wife wrestled internationally for years. I once asked her what she thought of things like this, given that she could end up wrestling a transgender person. She didn't care. She said that in her view it didn't matter because she still needed to beat them, so worrying about things like this, that she can't control or do anything about, is a waste of mental energy and she'd just rather be focused on winning. That and she also felt that she was stronger than any average guy her size so it wouldn't matter.

Honestly good. I was against it, but after seeing how Trump pardoned people so they wouldn't have to cut deals and testify against him to avoid prison, I say good. He should pardon anyone who Trump hates on the way out just for good measure.

Our immigration rules are much different, more complex and have a lot of places where things aren't clear. Which is why we have judges in ICE court who decide things like removals on a case by case basis. I've helped people successfully avoid being deported, even though there was definitely enough cause to do so. Also if somebody walks across the border and immediately surrenders to BP and is asking for asylum, then that is not illegal. So you have to determine what would compel somebody to do something desperate like that. Did you know that if you have even a halfway competent attorney, you can delay removal proceedings for years, be able to claim legal status, work legally, etc while appealing your removal? I've had other ones where I thought it was a slam dunk where we would win and the judge ruled against us. Not for lack of trying. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. But most of the time I've helped on cases, we've been pretty successful. So short answer, the laws concerning ICE are not exactly black and white. The NCAA rules are very clear though.

Sounds like you've never played sports. Trust me, especially in college, you know everything. Hell even if you aren't on the team but have close friends who are, you know things about their teammates. An old acquaintance played D1 ball and even though he eventually got booted out of school, twice, the stuff he let us non athletes in on would have ruined the football program if it ever got out. So yes I'm pretty sure they knew about their teammate being transgender, but until it became politically expedient, nobody cared. It wasn't like she was the sole reason they were winning.

I don't really see why anyone cares that much. As far as the NCAA is concerned, she meets the criteria to be eligible to play. If people are upset, take it up with the NCAA. They made the rules. And honestly, I am just tired of hearing about this crap. Who cares if somebody is transgender or not? I don't.
