  1. I'd hate to see how you react to someone who did something actually bad. You have an impossible bar to clear my man if repeating the 8th grade is morally bankrupt.
  2. I think he repeated 8th grade to benefit him in his wrestling career. I am not sure why it matters that RBY played video games that year. He could have planted a garden. Or taken up wood working. I don't know that it's relevant what a 14/15 year old kid did while he repeated the 8th grade, taking classes that he already passed. It was for wrestling obviously.
  3. They 100% redshirted so they could have a better chance of winning an individual title. It worked considering they both came back and won an individual title. I am not sure anyone has ever put forth any other explanation of why they redshirted when they did. Is there something inherently wrong with them making decisions that would allow them to achieve their goals? I am not understanding your post.
  4. No, I don't think having a kid repeat the 8th grade because of athletics is morally bankrupt. I mean, if that is what passes for morally bankrupt then what in the hell do we call people who do real, actual bad things? I think we need some perspective here man. If the floor for being morally bankrupt is having your son repeat 8th grade then I am afraid that the bar for being a morally good person will be so high that literally nobody can reach it. On a side note if you haven't watched The Good Place then you should. What we are talking about here is the entire premise of the show. It's an incredibly funny and entertaining watch.
  5. I was born right at the cutoff date to start school. My mom could have started me in kindergarten but I would have been one of the youngest kids in the class. Instead she started me the next year and I was one of the oldest kids in my class and I absolutely loved that. If you're close to the cutoff date I would honestly recommend starting your child the next year. At least that is how I feel from personal experience. My niece and my best friend's son were both born in March, two weeks apart. My sister started my niece in kindergarten while my best friend opted to start his kid in kindergarten the following year. My niece will be in 4th grade in the fall while my buddy's kid will be in 3rd grade. I'd rather be the kid in 3rd grade that is older than everyone. I really don't have an opinion on purposely holding your kid back in 8th grade if he is a kid that could be a D1 athlete. At this point there is A LOT to gain by holding your kid back a year. You can set your entire family up financially by doing that at this point. I certainly don't blame parents these days for putting their kids in a position to set themselves up financially for the rest of their lives, even if it means their kid takes a year to play video games.
  6. Repeating 8th grade is 200% morally bankrupt? It sounds like you're really grading on a curve here. What kinda of percentage does actually doing something bad get you? Seventeen billion percent morally bankrupt?
  7. I completely understand why you lead with “this will be my last post on this thread.”
  8. I have a day job and I still post on this dumb board during the day. If I can do it then Pete Minnow can too.
  9. Pyles looks like he would get pinned by an 8th grader wrestling JV on their junior high team.
  10. I’m a “college starter” level poster.
  11. We are going to disagree on what we know. I understand that we know the differences in men and woman after puberty. What I think we need more information on his what happens when someone transitions and goes through hormone treatment. How much does it effect bone density etc? Is it possible that after transitioning with hormone therapy that there are some sports where the advantage of being born male and going through puberty is negated by the transition? I think this is all too new for us to know for sure whether or not it's possible to even the playing field between trans woman and woman. And if we take the time to research this I'll accept whatever conclusion they come to. If we research this in good faith and we determine that no amount of current treatments can even the playing field enough for trans women to compete in any sports then so be it. I think we definitely still need to figure out if that is possible and if it is, can it apply to all sports and if not which ones. As far as DSD goes I am in agreement. I can't get behind punishing someone because they were born a certain way. In the case of the Algerian boxer she was born with DSD, she has identified as a female since birth and never transitioned. She was gifted (if you want to call it that) with a physiology that gives her an advantage over other women. It's a slippery slope. Take Michael Phelps for example. Michael Phelps is considered an exceptional swimmer due to a combination of factors, including his unique physical attributes, intense training, and mental fortitude. He possesses an anatomy that is well-suited for swimming, including a long torso, short legs, double-jointed ankles and elbows, and a high lung capacity. These physical advantages, coupled with his dedication, discipline, and mental toughness, allowed him to achieve unparalleled success in swimming. Where is the line? Because Michael Phelps was born with physiology that makes him far superior to other swimmers are we going to ban him from swimming? Of course we wouldn't even think of banning Michael Phelps because he has physical attributes that are more fish like than everyone else.
  12. I am not sure why, without the actual research into this, you can say with any conviction where the line should be. I don't think we know at this point where the line should be, but we should certainly put in the time and research to find out. Because again, I think there are too many variables to consider such as the specific sport, the hormone levels of someone who has transitioned, and any other measurable that may apply that could be different in each individual who transitions. I am probably Ok with pulling back a bit and putting in some guardrails while we figure it out, though with the caveat that the guardrails make sense for everyone.
  13. What our good friend and esteemed colleague is saying is that if PSU rosters 30 guys and those 6 guys in the portal who did not find a new landing spot want to stay at Penn State they will simply become exempt and PSU will have a roster of 36 guys. At least this is how I understand it. It makes me wonder if anyone is going to game the system here and have like 20 guys enter the portal with the plan to fill those 20 spots with transfers, and then just have those 20 guys return as exempt from roster limits and roll with a roster of 50.
  14. You bring up fair points. The reality is that this is a far more complex situation than most people want to admit. It's not just, "pull down your pants" and we are all good. It's a nuanced topic and certainly not the widespread epidemic that some make it out to be. Of course, like I have already pointed out, the right has completely moved the goalposts on this one. They went from trying to pass bills that would require genital inspections as the end all be all of this issue until they realized it's not that simple and have pivoted to a new approach. Now anyone who is too masculine is just trans to these people. This topic needs much more research to figure out exactly how this effects athletes. We may find out that it's fair in some sports to allow trans women to participate once their hormone levels meet a specific criteria and we may learn that there are some sports where someone who was born male (by the traditional definition) will simply always have an unfair advantage that hormone therapy won't alleviate. Only when we have enough data on this can we really determine how to move forward.
  15. I am relieved to learn that a guy on the Intermat wrestling forums has figured it all out! This is truly amazing man. The history books will talk about the Intermat wrestling forum and the great Scouts Honor who led the world into an age of enlightenment. Praise be to Scouts Honor!
  16. I'm not sure you understand what virtue-signaling is.
  17. I think you and everybody else understood what I meant.
  18. He can qualify for deez nuts.
  19. I have never seen someone like senior Robles at 125lbs, not even Spencer Lee. He was built like a 165lber. It was absolutely insane watching him ragdoll everyone. I don't think any 125lber in the history of the NCAA can beat that senior Robles.
  20. I have never been a fan of Flo and their illegal bate and switch tactics. The whole PCN thing has always just been icing on the sh*t cake that is Flo. Pennsylvania residents should be able to watch all PIAA broadcasts for free on PCN no matter the sport. I'm not even a senior, I am 44 years old, and I think selling the rights to Flo was awful. I can't believe a bunch of people here sided with Flo, but then again maybe they are Flo subscribers and don't live in PA so they welcomed the opportunity to watch the PIAA finals.
  21. The part where it says she supports trans rights? Do you think everyone who supports trans rights is a trans person?
  22. I think it's criminal that they sold the rights to the PIAA state finals to Flo. PCN used to air them all for free.
