  1. Just makes sense. TnT needs it to workout. The only way they can try and keep up is in the portal.
  2. Just my opinion. Whether it happens or not, who knows. But I definitely can see it.
  3. I think they separated so they could try and stay out of trouble, prove that they can and before we know it, will all be back at Iowa. Kind of a prove to the brass type of deal.
  4. I don’t think for a second it’s Maple in any fashion. I’d be willing to bet money that if you polled the wrestlers in the room, they will all agree Maple is a huge part of whatever success the have, KOT specifically continues to mention him in interviews about what he’s done for him. I do know for a fact the reason we have gotten a couple of these higher rated recruits is Maple specifically. He’s turned into a great recruiter in his tenure. He may have input, but he doesn’t run the program, that’s what Smith does and he’s done a great job thus far. If I had one bad thing to say about Smith and it’s not even bad, is he’s loyal to his style and his guys. But that’s what makes him successful. We’ve obviously changed the schedule, judgement is still out on if it’s working or not, but to me it’s not. Long breaks between matches/tournaments isn’t keeping us sharp, we are flat and out of shape, Stanford match was the worst I’ve seen us in a long time. We don’t do the big tournaments over Xmas or any that I recall the last 2-3 years. Luckily our dual meet schedule has been pretty tough. As far as the recent injury bug, that’s the million dollar question. Why and how is it happening. I understand they are apart of sports, but this many in one place is crazy. Is it a wrestling room problem, strength and conditioning problem, personal injuries doing work outside on their own? Can’t perform in March if we are hurt before the whistles are blown to start the match. Can we bring Waters back? We need a light weight coach that is still competing to help Maple drill and work with these guys.
  5. I wish I knew. It’s frustrating. I will say that without injuries we win this dual vs Stanford. 174 we got teched, add in kot we win, 3 point minimum. Thats 8 point swing. Rocky/Sinclair win 197. We are losing close matches all year. They came out flat and outta gas. We were already questionable at some weights even with a full healthy lineup. They are just being highlighted now that the big names are out. Cant cover them up anymore. I won’t discredit any of the guys, but we are running a lineup out that consists of room or backup guys. Losing Harmon, Whitling hurts us now, depth is depleted.
  6. Didn’t know that. Hadn’t seen any results for him recently, now I know.
  7. No clue what weight he would be, but I agree 184 is probably his better weight. If Rocky is back at 197, one of hawks/sinclair is on the bench because 174 is most likely not an option for either. Here is the list of ‘25 commits. 5th ranked class overall. Rath has forgone his SR year and is training at the OTC.
  8. 100% true and I’m excited about it. Question is, will Smith RS those guys or let them wrestle? I would venture to say, Mendoza, Rath, Stillwell could probably overtake 133,157 and Hwy. Maybe Bambanelli wrestles at 174 with KOT gone. Best case if Rocky comes back he moves to Hwy so Stillwell can RS. walker mendoza edmond Selzter/Gioffre Rath Steed Bambinelli Hawks Sinclair Rocky very formable lineup
  9. We aren’t looking good. Hawks hurt his knee prior to getting the fall, hopefully it’s not serious. We looked out of shape and gassed during and after matches, Edmond, Seltzer Conway etc. Not winning the coin flip matches, not just today, but throughout the season is killing them. Some matches we are being rode whole periods. Have to be able to get out in bottom. They aren’t deep in some weights and it shows. The injuries have highlighted that. Until we have a full team minus Rocky i would guess scores like this become a norm. Hopefully this is deterring recruitment or current recruits with how the portal has become.
  10. Out for the season. Injuries suck.
  11. My excitement level is low as well. Maybe it’s injuries, lack of top teams or big matchups happening at what I consider watered down dual meets and tournaments. Take the SS for example, the match with Arnold and Ferrari not happening killed it. The highlight match of the tournament and it doesn’t happen due to a MFF. We can get KOT vs Haines but not Ferrari/Arnold. Hopefully the second half of the season heats up, January-March is a great time of the year when wrestling is going full steam.
  12. No clue. Looks like a RS to me, but I have no real information other than a guess. I believe he has 1 more free date. Maybe if tonight’s dual was winnable he goes, but again that’s a guess.
  13. Final scores
  14. He wrestled unattached at the salute
  15. Here are the lineups. Both teams missing starters.
  16. Do you feel he retires? If that’s the case, why not announce a med retirement with or after Surtin? Does he portal and go elsewhere? I have a hard time with that route as he’s been a true Mizzou kid his whole life. But money does talk. Maybe he’s ready to go to work on the farm, and put wrestling in the past.
  17. That’s not how it works every time at Mizzou. Whitting beat out hawks last year, starter most of the year and Hawks got moved into the lineup at the end of the year. Now idk the details, and I won’t go into what I’ve heard about it but Whitting was 2-0 or 3-0 vs Hawks in H2H battles. Also Smith has choosen other guys over wrestle off winners in the past.
  18. This would ideal and I’m am all for this. No way do you sit Sinclair for two years. My question is do you punt another year, RS Sinclair, Walker Mendoza and Rath next year and two years from now go for a trophy? Maybe they don’t want to RS, then what do you do if you’re Smith. Myself and I know Sinclair doesn’t cut, but maybe he goes 184 and hawks to 197 next year.
  19. Where does Hawks go? According to the roster he’s a RSJR, he would have another year correct?
  20. Cassett is the only other 197 that has wrestled this year as far as I know beyond Sinclair. We lack depth in the upper weights. As much as I’d hate to punt a year, this definitely is a year to do it. How it reflects on recruiting is yet to be seen. Hopefully not much. But I do wonder if Rocky come back how it effects the lineup for next year. Sinclair I would imagine would not want to ride the bench for 2 years. We do need him in the lineup honestly.
  21. I’ve read a couple times on the Iowa board that Rocky would be a perfect portal fill in at 197 for them next year. I blew it off before today. Not saying it will happen, but I’m not blowing it off any longer.
  22. So how does this work? Rocky is going to miss the season, he has a regular RS he has not taken as of yet. He could possibly get a MRS this year. Is it possible he actually could comeback for 2 more years? If so I don’t believe he would. Also does he move up to HWY? If he comes back at 197, one of Hawks or Sinclair doesn’t make the lineup as I don’t either making 174.
  23. They have not, best finish is 5th during their time.
  24. I’ve heard rumblings he at least considered medical retirement around the same time as Surtin announced his. Could still happen I’d guess, but who knows.
  25. Just found it, Buch win 15-4.
