  1. Why was he a villain before? He won all his matches vs Fix in non-controversial manner.
  2. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/hwc-out-performs-nlwc.449155/
  3. I mean it's kind of silly. They are totally different sports with completely different scoring systems.
  4. We all know the HWC outperformed the NLWC at the Olympics. Spencer had the best performance of any man. Zain went 0-1, RBY went 0-1, Dake got 3rd (was favored to win), Snyder got 5th (was favored to medal). The bigger story is that the NLWC is going through major turnover. DT left the NLWC to become head coach of Ok State. Jimmy Kennedy left NLWC to join DT's staff. Zain is retiring to take a job on Wall Street; he has concussion issues that are ending his career. Nolf is moving to Texas to pursue BJJ. RBY just joined the Cowboy RTC. Dake is 34 years old and sounds like he might be retiring Gilman is gone. Iowa meanwhile is adding Stephen Buchannon and Jacori Teemer soon. They may add "Gabble" if he gets cut from the Bills. Seems like NLWC is on a downward spiral and Iowa is on the rise.
  5. most BJJ guys immediately fall to their butts or backs to start a match. So being taken down to your back is actually better for the BJJ guy.
  6. Nolf, while the better scrambler, is probably going to do worse than Kerk because he's facing the #1 guy in his category. Kerk may also have a size advantage over his opponent.
  7. He just posted on his IG what sounds like a retirement message. Congrats Zain Train, I’ll always be a fan!
  8. Jason Nolf (+700) vs. Tye Ryotolo (-1000) In the first round of the under 80 kg division, Nolf will take on perhaps the tournament favorite in Tye Ruotolo. Back in June, Nolf made his grappling debut against former NAIA All-American Andrew Simmons. The former Penn State wrestler scored an early takedown and eventually worked his way into a match-ending arm-triangle choke. While that was a solid dip into the pond, he will be jumping into the deep end at CJI. Ruotolo is only 21 years old, but he has already put together an extensive resume highlighted by a bronze medal-winning performance at the 2022 edition of ADCC. He is also the current ONE Championship welterweight submission grappling world champion. Daniel Kerkvliet (+350) vs. Fellipe Andrew (-450) In his grappling debut, Kerkvliet will face off against the 2023 IBJJF world champion Fellipe Andrew. The IBJJF, which stands for International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, world event is considered the pinnacle of GI grappling. Andrew won the tournament in the under 94 kg division and followed that up with another victory at the 2024 Pan American Championships. Since losing to Rayron Gracie earlier this year, Andrew has gone on a 12-match winning streak that includes a submission victory over Anderson Munis less than 20 days ago.
  9. The first two are reportedly a done deal. Jordan Williams could slot in nicely at 149 for the Hawkeyes, what do you think?
  10. Nolf and Kerk will likely lose in the first round. Wrestling is very different from grappling. Both guys probably get leglocked in under 2 minutes imo.
  11. Suriano won a couple of NCAA titles too. Did he get anywhere near that treatment?
  12. There is a special exemption for grad students or students transferring to Iowa.
  13. Iowa wants a team title next year. $1 million for 2 All-Americans might do it for them.
  14. Wow, so Iowa could be paying $1 million to Buchannon and Teemer for 1 semester of wrestling. This is only worth it if you believe these 2 guys are the missing pieces to a team title. Nichols' cash must be burning a hole in his brokerage account.
  15. Have to feel bad for Glazier. It wasn't enough to bring in Ferrari, now they bring in Buchannon. They must really hate Glazier.
  16. Actually, yes. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/hwc-out-performs-nlwc.449155/
  17. First, it's obvious Iowa/Hawkeye RTC had the best performance overall. The Lee and Kennedy Blades both won silver, which were the best performance the US team had in Paris. Second, it's obvious NLWC underperformed. RBY went 0-1, Zain went 0-1, Snyder got 5th (when he was favored to medal), Brooks got 3rd (really should have been in the finals) and Dake got 3rd (when he was favored to win). Third, overall it seems women are outperforming men at freestyle. This is no surprise given women ONLY wrestle freestyle at the college level. So is the takeaway that Iowa/Hawkeye receives a boost and Penn State/NLWC loses a bit of luster amongst recruits who have Olympic aspirations? Bonus: how impressive is Japan? They dominated in both styles in both men and women's. Imagine a college team of Japanese wrestlers...how would they do at NCAAs after a few years of practicing folkstyle?
