InterMat's 2024 Recruiting Class Rankings: Part Two (#1-12)
Pish commented on InterMat Staff's article in Recruiting
Great stuff Earl -
I just see it as common sense. This is an individual tournament with a team aspect. Spencer Lee's goal was to win it all. The loss must have crushed him. I'm sure he could have wrestled Saturday and came back for 3rd, but I was never one to kill the kid for not going. Now if Iowa was in the thick of things, I would have felt differently, but if I recall, they had secured 2nd at that point. That being said..who am I to judge one way or the other. As for Starocci..Not sure how anyone can say he quit. Obviously he begged to go and coach held him out (with all the drama afterwards).
-
Huh? I just came in and looked at your post and gave some context. I haven't read thru rest of thread. What do you mean did Starocci quit? Isn't he wrestling next week? As for Lee..if he was hurt, then no he didnt quit. If not, he did..I don't know
-
Yeah but only after taking out Mason Paris and securing team title for PSU. He had a pinched nerve. If it wasn't for the team, he would have not wrestled Saturday at all. Once he secured the team title his work was done
-
Yep. Either way that’s your 1 and 2 seeds. No one else has a shot
-
Losses don’t come into play. Stanch will have him beat in coaches rank. Davis will have him beat in winning %. Probably will come down to RPI
-
I didn’t realize Cael, Smith and Steiber wrestled in 5 NCAA tournaments.
-
PSU has senior night next week vs Edinboro. Nagao sick per Jeff Byers

Of course, turned on to watch what I thought would be a good dual only to see good ole Cornell without Vito or Cornella. Please Cornell..going forward, stop scheduling a great out of conference schedule when all you do is sit guys and lose. It’s one thing to sit guys and win. It’s unbelievable how many times they lose because guys don’t take the mat

The difference is MM has DeSantos pace and a million different offensive attacks and DeSanto had 1

My LOL was you saying you can see Caliendo winning a rematch?? Are you joking? He’s lucky he didn’t get majored and I would predict that or worse next time they wrestle. not sure what the hell you watched to pick Caliendo in a rematch

question about Big Ten+ streaming service....
Pish replied to Bardamu911's topic in College Wrestling
You don’t need B1G+ tonight. If you have B1G10 Network just record it. If not, do a free trial with YouTubeTV, DirectTVstream etc and record it -
Welp..I'm going to do it.. Davis dec 3-0 Nagao dec 6-0 Bartlett dec 9-0 Kasak dec 12-0 Haines dec 15-0 Messenbrink MD 19-0 Star MD 23-0 Truax dec 26-0 Brooks MD 30-0 Kerk MD 34-0 I'm sure Iowa will get one or two, but I'm not predicting it. IMO there are pickems at 125, 141, 149 and 157..but based on what Ive seen, I give PSU slight edges in each

Recruiting Rankings for All 330 Ranked Wrestlers

Great Stuff Earl! -
1. I can’t imagine a world in which Cael would ever take a match and put it in the hands of a lawyer, if they did, I’d be done as a fan. That’s not sport, that bullshit IMO. 2. Last year, Flo and all the bullshit hubbub for that match in Florida and then we got Cornell’s B team. If Grey didn’t want to wrestle anyone for whatever reason..then let Flo know in advance so people don’t waster their time 3. They clearly ducked Ramirez (You won’t convince me otherwise. They did it again with Fernandez..he ducks Pitt HWY but takes match against Bastida. 4. You just gave me examples of 4 losses over last couple years to teams they were better than. 5. I hated the way they handled Shapiro earlier in the year. It was clear to anyone that the kid was concussed, but they let him continue anyway i have no problem with the fans of Cornell, I don’t even mind the wrestlers. It’s the coaches. Koll and Grey have a lot to be desired in my opinion. I promise you, as a PSU fan if I ever saw something like what I saw against Iowa State and tOSU last year (coach losing the match by not trying and playing duck duck goose). I would no longer be a fan. I get it you’re a big Cornell fan and you’re going to defend them. When Cael decides to take a loss and put it in lawyers hands I’m out. If Cael decides to lose a couple matches every year because of seeding implications, I’m out. Do you remember the match a few years ago when Schultz and Kerkliviet were supposed to wrestle? Zeke Jones literally pulled Schultz back and wouldn’t let him wrestle Kerk. That was a clear duck and I assume you agree with that? From an outsider perspective, what Cornell did in the Collegiate Duals this year was just as blatant IMO
-
Maybe watch the show before you come here with your condescending attitude. Vito himself brings this up. I thought the film was well done and I gave him props for his run last year. Why are you offended? Because I don’t like Cornell? Most fans on this site, hate PSU..doesn’t bother me My reasons why they are my most least like team? The whole lawyer thing they pulled a few years ago with Zain, Never liked Koll, comes across as a whiny prick, I feel Cornell over the last 2 yrs has lost duals they easily win if they don’t duck. They promote events and then don’t wrestle (see last year vs tOSU). if you’re a fan of the team, good for you. Doesn’t mean everyone does. Just like many don’t like Iowa, PSU and others.. get some thicker skin..
-
Cornell is my least favorite program. That being said, film was well done.. He was lights out last year in his run thru NCAA's, US Open and then Worlds. I never thought I'd see anyone be faster than RBY, but that finals match Vito turned it up big time. Vito must have some type of mental thing going on (he even mentions this in his film). He could look so dominate and then the next week lose to the same person he just tech'd or pinned.
-
You may be right with the bouns thing..also, I didnt even realize he had 15 college matches last year (wasn't he in HS)? Were they all D1 opponents last year? I wouldn't think wrestlestats would use D2 or D3 guys
-
See..McKee not a headscratcher to me as like Vak said..their algo takes into account past season results and McKee has some very good wins over the years. Shapiro is only in his first year..and that's why this one has me stumped. I mean Levi has 1 1/2 yrs of data, more wins and the same amount of losses as Shapiro (Haines lost twice last year)
-
Yes..I know you were.. I'm just saying..I wish wrestlestat could nail down that algorythym so that would get rid of any subjective rankings..I know they tweak it every year and honestly it's pretty good, but like you said, then there are some headscratchers
-
I agree 100%, Messenbrink will have to earn it and will have his chances. You bring up wrestlestats (which I LOVE) but I would love to have them explain Meyer Shapiro at #1 with 2 losses. No knock on wrestlestats because IMO this was the greatest technological advanacement in wrestling ever. I don't use them for rankings. But I do wonder how Shapiro vaulted to #1 with 2 losses.
-
I agree with you.. The one thing I didn't see you bring up and this is also in response to the other poster who you are replying to..the ONLY reason Brooks wasn't #1 last year is because he didn't have enough matches for RPI. Once those points were taken out of equation he had NO chance at #1 seed. Brooks was #1 in coaches rank, had great winning%, but he didn't have an RPI since he didn't have the 15 matches
-
Mark Hall finished 1, 2, 2 in his career. Pretty damned good! As far as dominance..I don’t think that’s something you can predict until they get into college. Some guys just have that extra something once they get in the room and sometimes it just takes time
