Ferrari just had a bad plan to start the match. He went to the edge, well past the edge, in the hopes of not giving Starocci room for a TD while giving himself room to counter any shot. I put it down to too much respect for Starocci. He grew into that match. If he had realized sooner he could compete with Starocci, so that he does not get the well earned stalls, then perhaps he can win it. No guarantee, but perhaps. He certainly looked strong enough, fast enough, and flexible enough. We still do not know if he can get through Starocci's elite defense. And maybe if he took early shots he would have gotten countered. But maybe not. Unfortunately for him there does not look like there will ever be a rematch to find out.

Ferrari came forward from feet out of bounds to inches out of bounds while Starocci was waiting feet in bounds causing Starocci to come forward to engage while Ferrari was still out of bounds.

Everything. Go to knee, back up to edge with minimal contact, wrestle from out of bounds, decline invitations to return in bounds, decline instructions to return in bounds, stay on all fours out of bounds. Starocci caused none of that. Ferrari chose all of that.

I rewatched that sequence and disagree. After they go OB, Starocci gets up and returns to IB. The ref calls for center and Starocci backs up a few feet. Ferrari stays on all fours and crawls to the edge of OB but stops before either hand makes it IB. So Starocci comes forward to engage. That was a very clear tactic on Ferrari's part. He was given time and room to come in bounds and return to his feet. He declined all offers.

Nothing artificial about it. I get Starocci is a pantomime villian, but if anything, Ferarri was luck to avoid a third stall between the other two stalls. Ferrari earned those stalls. He did everything in his power to get them.

I am not sure how anyone, especially an Iowa fan, has two legs to stand on complaining about the stalls on Ferrari given that he was standing on two legs out of bounds for both of them. These are exactly the kind of calls we all call for. Ferrari spent the first period backing out of bounds and then not working to get back in bounds. When one guy is in and the other guy has two feet out for extended periods of time then stalls are warranted. Ferrari even used it to his advantage at the end of the first to avoid the takedown. But I will cede to the ultimate authority. What do you say, Dan?
