  1. I know Pennsylvania and Iowa like to debate which state is the Mecca of wrestling. Well, @flyingcement and I are here to tell you that they are a pair of pretenders. If you want to score points we have some time tested advice for you. Go West, young man, Go West. Get ye to the north of the Dakotas. Combining flyingcement's geographic data (I cannot imagine how much work that was) with Intermat's latest rankings and my expected points per seed tells us how many points per million residents each state is expected to contribute to their team's totals. So, @VakAttack if you really want to put an end to Penn State's despotic rule you need to get the Brands brothers (Brands of Brothers?) to recruit a ND wrestler at every weight.
  2. Data behind the location graph. Nigeria really needs to step it up.
  3. @flyingcement and yours truly have teamed up to bore you to tears knock your socks off with our combined wrestling wrestling data sets. Warning: one of us claims to defy the laws of physics and the other can't tell his ass from his elbow, so take it for what it is worth. Using the airborne concrete data listing the hometown state of every D1 wrestler, first we present where all the wrestlers are coming from. The first graph shows the count of wrestlers by hometown state. We already knew about Pennsylvania high school wrestling and why recruiting the NE is so important. But the number of wrestlers coming out of California cannot be ignored. However, this is just half of the story. If I have to fly all the way to California I will need to sift through a lot of people to find the wrestlers. Will it be worth my time? OK, let's see what things look like when we normalize for population. I guess I need to find a connecting flight to California, preferably one with a stop over in Iowa. And every team needs to have a recruiter stationed in Alaska. More to come. I will fold the expected points data in with the location data to see where the points are coming from at NCAAs. Any other ideas? I am open to persuasion.
  4. Right after the OED smacks down M-W, Collins comes sneaking up from behind and smashes a folding chair across OED's back. Then Collins jumps on top for the cheap fall (or is it pinfall?) which the hapless stooge of a ref calls even though it is so clearly against the rules.
  5. Love it when we get dueling dictionaries. I have Oxford English in a major decision over Merriam-Webster. Noah Webster was a punk.
  6. It gets worse. He gave me a red breast...in her presence.
  7. I wish you had spoken up sooner. Just gave that to my wife's cousin. Maybe next time.
  8. As much as I like an American Airlines deal... @BobDole, @InterMat Staff
  9. I'm calling the Nebraska sweep at Big Ten's right now. If @jajensen09 was a real Husker fan I would already be too late.
  10. wrestlingstats has him at 43 also. that may be the same source as nwhof. http://www.wrestlingstats.com/ncaa/view_wrestlers.php?wrestler=3420
  11. Calling all historians. A comment on FRL this morning got me thinking about who has won an NCAA title with the most career losses? And who had the most losses in the season they won a title? I did a quick, very partial scan of wrestlingstats and the most I could find was J Jaggers with 32 career loses and J Jaggers with 9 loses in 2009 when he won as a senior.
  12. The flexibility/strength combination needed to defend that bow and arrow was amazing.
  13. There is an alternative theory being heatedly "discussed" on HR that Assad is in Brands' doghouse for getting pinned his last time out.
  14. A couple reasons. The username was created moments before the first comment, implying it was created for this topic. And the user talked knowledgably about the history of the forum, implying they had been around to witness the history firsthand. I grant there are other conclusions you can draw from the above, but I concluded the user read the thread, didn't like what they read, and created a new username to say as much. The use of mascot/fan for SDSU was a nice touch too.
