  1. I was thinking the same thing, along with Iowa, Oklahoma State and Iowa State duals....back then the Big 8 was the best wrestling conference in the country.
  2. And he'll be wearing a belt buckle, have his shoelaces tied and there will be "separation" between him and Sparkplug.

  4. That is correct.....John was great himself.....3 time state champion in high school with several wins and at least one pin over Andre Metzger.....Andre went to Japan John's senior year in high school! 8. Alan pinned Brands ....Midlands Barsagar to a half (crusher)....beautiful. Actually, now that I think of it, Joey Gilbert had Brands pinned in the Big Ten finals, but the ref wouldn't call.....how do know, I was standing right there and the video is in my library.

  10. Alan was one of the greatest high school wrestlers of all time along with Cary Kolat and Brent Metcalf, Mark Hall....one or two more
  11. Gus and I were good friends...at one NCAA he had 3 guys in the same weight....Ray Brinzer, Rich Catalano and Ken Bauer. I was also at the North Alleghany/St. Eds dual when Alan Fried moved up a couple of weights to wrestle Catalano and lost, but it was still a good match....Alan was very special, but the size difference was just too much.
  12. There's some great answers here.... brings back a lot of memories as I witnesses most of those pins....quite a few, but back let's back up one level to high school ......Dapper Dan Classic ....two 4 time state champions....Ty Moore pins eventual 3 time NCAA Champion T.J. Jaworski in maybe 39 seconds.
  13. he wasn't pinned ....his upper half of his back was resting on Caldwell's torso.
  14. Lambrecht pinned while having a big lead, but he was only the 6th seed. He did beat Damion Hahn in the semis though.

  20. It's one of them!
  21. You were satisfied with a tie, you didn't want win, you were satified with a tie, and that's exactly what you got....Dan Gable talking to Travis Fiser....
