During the delay, Lockett was watching his match, and -- not that I needed proof -- this confirms that he does in fact see himself in matches. I want to ask a question like, "Don't you recognize how bad dropping to a knee, skating to the edge, dancing around, avoiding contact, lazy-ing back to the line, etc look to the refs, coaches, and fans?" But he has to see it, right?

What is he doing? It's not like he's lacking positive role models or experts to show him better tactics.

Just delaying the inevitable.  It all catches up in the end.  He is very talented and this style has worked for him at every level, till it doesn't!

I don't care for this style, nor would I ever coach it.  But that's me.

I'm not interested in beating up on the kid, and I can't imagine anybody coaching him to wrestle like this.

Re "has worked": maybe this is my question: What is he getting out of it?

Ive heard a bunch of talk about conditioning which I cant believe. No way hes not it wrestling shape.

This style is so lazy that Kyle Dake rode it to multiple world titles and olympic medals.

If you don't like it then change the rules of lazy ass folk style.

i am an idiot on the internet

I blame Anthony Robles for popularizing this style of wrestling. He probably watched Franklin Gomez win and thought I can do that too. I'm not blaming gomez because Michigan State is where wrestling goes to die. Therefore Robles and maybe Thom Ortiz deserve the blame because they brought it back to life and made it mainstream where any kid could do it.

Kind of my point: he obviously isn't lazy, but you have to admit it looks bad, no? So, he must think he's gaining more than he's sacrificing by looking like hes avoiding contact. What's Lockett gaining?

Re dake: you're right about the knee stuff, but their styles dont share much otherwise.

It’s deceptive.  You see him moving so slowly and then in the blink of an eye you can completely miss what he did for the takedown.  To me, it looks like the entire team is below the conditioning of previous teams.

Really? I see kids taking ground, committing to rides, and getting off bottom. Might just be orange tinted blinders, but I dont remember many cowboys giving up full period ride outs this year.

Re Lockett: I see the same thing. Do you think this tactic is worth what it costs?

Re Lockett: I see the same thing.

If you watch the first episode of the Stilly Boys series that dropped last week, DT was criticizing Dee after a match that was closer than it should have been and part of the criticism was that Dee was more interesting in showboating and how he looked than scoring points.

It's not very hard to see this in Dee if you know what to look for. Dee looks like someone who wants to wrestle with the same style, ease, and slickness of Jordan Oliver. I wouldn't be surprised at all if J.O. was Dee's first idol in the sport of wrestling.

I think it's a bit of immaturity and stubbornness that he thinks he looks cool and "chill" wrestling on his knees with a laidback approach. The coaches probably are going to let him learn from it when it fails him rather than try to force the issue.

I'm a big Lockett fan, and I know I mentioned him above, but it really does remind me of JO's RSFR season when he got the "Jordan Stall-iver" nickname. Way too much talent to only show limited flashes. And Lockett doesn't have the excuse of a John W. weight suck.

Could be, and so the appearance of stalling is the price he pays for the periodic highlight-reel misdirection head-outside low single.

He's a double leg from space guy.  What he gains by backing up is the other guy moving forward.  Backing up might be the best double leg setup.

I hate watching the guy wrestle but what he's doing is obvious.

Fair enough, but don't you think there's some truth in what BruceyB says? E.g. Im not sure how this is setting up a double from space (@7.32):

Dude escapes then jogs a 40' arc to the out of bounds before facing  the guy.

Yep.  He wrestles most of every match trying to make the other guy come forward.  It's super obvious what he's doing.  You can question the effectiveness for sure.  You can call it stalling for sure.  But it's not a mystery what he's doing.
