Brackets are here (thanks to Simpleman424 for linking them): https://img.boostsport.ai/boost-cms/Brackets.pdf

What do you see that is interesting? A few things that caught my eye:

  • At 157, Duke does not have a cakewalk if he's going to win it all. He may have to go through Cannon (14-1), Kannon (16-3), and Taylor (20-2). Meanwhile, Taylor's path may be Mechler (15-6), Catrabone (15-6), and Duke (16-1).
  • At 165, we could see a MM-Blaze final.
  • At 184, we could see a Welsh-McEnelly final.

Bouzakis vs the scale is going to be the biggest battle. It's his first 2 day at 125.  If he gets to the finals, he's got a great chance on a full feed/hydration.

133 has Byrd/Davino in the semis

285 is going to have some intrigue.

Good points. Especially regarding 133. If Byrd and Davino face off, that will be super fun to watch.

Amos has a good path to the finals, speaking freely.

Mirasola should ask him how to get to 285lbs in a year.

Not that it really matters bc he's head and shoulders above the field, but I think Levi had a lesser path as the 2 seed. I think Kharchla and particularly Mantanona pose a bigger threat than Kennedy. Shouldn't matter anyway...just an observation.

He only needs to beat one of Mantanona/Kharchla.  His path is easy, either way.

I think Amos has a great shot. Mirasola got a bad draw.  Amos and Ghadali are the type to give him the most problems.  I think he could have made the finals on the bottom side as he's beat Feldman and went in OT with Ferrari.  I don't see him doing much on the top side.

I agree.  Amos and Big Taye are the two I think beat him most soundly.  Amos because of sheer mass alone and Big Taye because he is just bigger, faster, stronger, and better right now.

Haines TFd Mantanona just a few weeks ago.

Both Mantanona brothers truly struggle against the insanely strong guys who also are elite wrestlers, skill-wise.

Insanely strong wrestlers with elites skills seem like a bad for almost erverybody.

I get it, but between the few guys seeded below Haines, Mantanona has a scrambling ability that can put anyone in danger. No one in this field can beat Levi straight up without some trickery.

Bouzakis has put on a masterclass this year managing his weight. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. He’ll destroy Rivera and still doesn’t have to be 100% to beat Moore.

Looking at the bracket I don’t see anyway we don’t see that matchup…honestly I think that’s a true toss up match. I might even lean Byrd…the guy has a lot of experience navigating a college season/post season.

His ability to suck all the way down and maintain strength is reminiscent of Khabib.  Bouzakis himself, as well as the people in charge of his diet, recovery, etc. deserve credit.  Before the season began I was skeptical and I don't think I'm alone in that outlook.  He sure proved us wrong.

Bouzakis gassed quite a bit this year and he never seemed to have a tank problem in the past.  Again, I wouldn't bet against him in the finals but I have questions if he gets there off the scale Sunday morning.

I have legitimately watched everyone of his matches…the only ones I’ve seen him get gassed was that period of time he was fighting illness. That was a good week plus stretch I believe. He was good the majority of the season though.

Yea there isn’t a stronger 125 in the nation…he’ll go back to 133 next year and hopefully keep that strength advantage as much as possible.

I don't think he gassed this year, but he could not maintain his first period pace for 3 periods. I strongly believe if he has to go into OT with Lilledahl again that we'll see the same outcome.

Some people consider gassing when a wrestler just can't move any longer but not being able to maintain the same pace is gassing to me.

I draw a distinction depending on what a wrestler looks like. Bouzakis isn't immobile after 7 minutes, so he ain't fully gassed imo.

Bouzakis must walk around close to 180 in the offseason.  He is massive.

I am curious, I would guess, maybe close to 150??

Stfu

He is 5'2" tall and stays lean.  Even at 133lbs he didn't break 140lbs in-season.

Welsh gets Ferrari 1st match, that seems fair.

Top seed gets guy who hasn't wrestled in over a month and lost seeding criteria as a result. More news at 11
