I kind of get the feeling that the Ono experiment is like the athletes who qualify for the Olympics but know they have no chance of winning and the highlights for them are the opening ceremony and eating McDonald's in the Olympic Village every day. He's just happy to be there.

The plan was always to redshirt him.  Nothing has changed.  What has ever given you the impression that he can not wrestle at this level.  You obviously did not watch the 24 Worlds.

Pretty much what I’ve heard. RS, get him acclimated to the US, school, language, culture, folkstyle, all while working to try and get him a 2nd year of eligibility from the NCAA. I’d expect him in the line up next year at either 133 or 141. He seems to be acclimating well with the team and having a blast.

Still don’t think I’ve heard anything definitive on his eligibility - 1 year vs 2 - so we’ll see there?

No idea how JJ factors in. An embarrassment of potential riches at these weights. There’s gonna come a point where even with RS, gray shirts, Olympic redshirts, you’re not gonna fit everyone in and kids may have to sit a year or two or transfer. [emoji2369] For now JJ is a 2yrs ish from now problem (he’ll RS year 1 at PSU I’d imagine).

JJ could go the GS/RS route, too.

He’s super young. Let the kid eat and grow. Getting him all the way up to 184/197 after two years solves some lineup issues, too.

Cael says “he’s excited to wrestle folkstyle…we were hoping to get him a handful of folkstyle matches this year but it didn’t work out”

Would it have even been possible to get him some matches without using a year of eligibility?

Unattached at an open, no?

He has been dealing with some kidney stuff from trying to cut too much to make 57 KG.

The question was about “getting matches without using a year of eligibility,” I said entering an open unattached

No

Just making sure we're together here.

“getting matches without using a year of eligibility,” that only applies to freshman doesn't it?

Getting dual matches, yes

The five dates only applies to freshman. But I believe any can wrestle unattached?

Ono isn't of Frosh eligibility is he?

He couldn't have wrestle any duals, if so.
