MNRodent Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Gophers are reportedly sending 11 wrestlers. Hopke and Tabor at Hwt. Eisch, Koenig, and Duchateau at 149. Whiting and Wester at 174, and Dailey at 197. Competing unattached are Beisel at 125, Johnson at 141, and Vanier at 149.
cl415 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) What a weird move by Iowa to sit their starters. Also, I am surprised the Hawks aren’t letting Arnold battle for the 174 spot with Kennedy. Kennedy is a grinder but he’s limited in some really important areas and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find himself on the outside looking in at AA this year. Edited January 2 by cl415

I'm most bummed that estrada isn't in it, I really feel like I was best option for a potential AA is estrada and I don't see VV or Williams scoring on estrada. Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I don’t think Estrada has shown the offense. Maybe it’s improved but my guess is JW beats him consistently.

Soldier Salute is known for lacking competition just like the Black Knight Invite, so to send starters there or not really has no impact on strength of schedule. It sucks for fans that they don't get to watch the best guys, but it can't be considered ducking when there's nothing to hide from. It's actually good from the perspective of non-starters getting valuable experience. But why not send starters who could use a little more work?

I agree he hasn't shown the offense, but the defense is stout enough, and Williams like to get out of position enough where I would see estrada getting an advantage. Who knows. bracketbuster Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Brackets are up on trackwrestling and I noticed there are Soldier Salute Extra Matches listed as a tournament. No wrestlers entered there yet but would those matches count towards a D1 record? I thought the NCAA got rid of such tournaments.

The same is true of Arnold regarding limitations. I think the outcome of a match between the two means very little. They can evaluate that in the room, but their styles and familiarity will likely lead to a very boring match that provides little insight into potential NCAA performance. Seeing how Arnold will fare against high-level opponents at 174 would be most useful. If he doesn't win this tournament, I doubt he'll get a chance to take the spot.
