Will this Waters move impact rankings?  Seeding?  I think it should.  Yes, I believe he was likely sick.  That said, we need to make ducking painful.  And even though I believe this was not ducking, same result.  One guy stepped on the mat.  Other guy choose not to do so.

All the big ten ducks we see every year , the yearly dual where Cornell sits half the team and no one drops but now West Virginia has a #1 guy for the first time in years and he sits out one dual sick and he should be dropped?

He wanted to be anywhere else. He was disgusted with his performance on bottom. Made that clear in about seven words...

He was very sick Friday night but pushed through bc they thought they could beat North Carolina . Preserve seeds for what big 12s? Watters is a 2x champ with 3 career loses , 2 of which are to Caleb Henson I don’t think he cares about a big 12 seed

How do you know this?

It's a slippery slope and I understand why it is not part of rankings or why it should not count as a loss. Similar to injury defaults. But it could be...

In a world where it does - let's say that once a team's dual meet schedule is set, say 10 duals, that number gets locked in as your total matches for "Win Percentage."
Every one of those duals counts, even if you skip it. Sit out one (for whatever reason) and it's like you took a loss there for your "Win Percentage". Go undefeated but miss one? You're 9-0, but your win percentage is out of 10 (90%). It hurts your win percentage but not your record.

Tournaments are just extra bonus wins on top. Win all 10 duals plus CKLV (go 5–0 there) and you're 15–0 with 100% Win Percentage. Skip one dual? Now it's 14–0 out of 15 (95% Win Percentage but still undefeated).

Basically, it makes guys wrestle every dual and rewards the ones who stay healthy and show up all year. No dodging matches without it hurting your record. It can be a criteria for rankings.

Caveat for complainers is maybe a formalized Injury Reserve process to remove duals on the schedule from your denominator. Caveats for redshirts that get pulled too. If you're in lineup battle, so what. Get over it. Get your ass out there. It doesn't have to be a heavily weighted criteria for NCAA seeding, but it's now a factor.

Watters did not look great against UNC on Friday, so maybe something was up.  Still have to consider it a duck though.   But we should still get to see them wrestle at conferences.
