For the longest while, buses here in Seattle and King County were free during covid.   Then they were losing so much money they said Ok, you have to pay.   That applies to everyone but homeless, drug addled, and teens going to school.

Similar in nyc.  Cost them a billion for fare evasion.  No one is paying anyhow lol 

maybe they wanna tax the rich cause the punks aren’t paying today.     50% of fares just don’t pay

NEW YORK -- The MTA is facing a new surge in bus fare evasion that is costing millions of dollars, just as the cash-strapped agency is in dire need of new funds to upgrade its aging system.

CBS News New York has learned some troubling statistics. Every single day close to 1 million bus riders -- 48% -- board without paying the fare. Believe it or not, that is more than double since the pandemic. In 2020, 21% of bus riders boarded without paying. Part of the reason for that is that buses were free during the pandemic and officials say it's hard to put that genie back in the bottle.

People are typically getting more than they paid in, even after interest. That's why it's heading toward insolvency. Adjustments are 110% necessary.

When it no longer exists.  Can't get what does not exist.  Pensions are pay-as-you-go.  They are not open ended unfunded "promises".   All investments have disclaimers warning about loses.  Even savings accounts have limits of insurance.  Pensions are not unconditionally indemnified by the taxpayers.  There is a Pension Guaranty entity which I know almost nothing about but seems to be an avenue of some recourse.  Unions have influence (direct control, actually) on the management of their pensions.  My grand children should not be liable via a higher percentage of their life's energy being paid for crimes, decisions, and mistakes made by crooks involved with another person's perceived "promise".
