Ah... the trick of the draw! 😏

Truzz has them going Haines gold, Yousefi silver... I guess the loser here will be going for bronze instead.

Doing predictions prior to brackets being released allows me an easy cop out if they are wildly inaccurate!

There's no aspect of the freestyle rules that needs to be cleaned up more than that. It's such a pet peeve of mine.

I'm talking about a wrestler shoots in, whether single or double, the defending wrestler's about to get scored on, and they try to convert it to their own move via some sort of leg-elevator/roll-through to expose the attacking wrestler's back, before giving up the TD.

Sometimes it's 4 for the leg attacking wrestler, sometimes 4 and 2 since they got exposed.  Other times, the wrestler doing the elevator gets the full 4 points, or they get 4 while the leg attacking wrestler gets 1 or 2. Occasionally you get 2 and 2.

The problem is that, the way the rule currently works, the refs are trying to give the wrestler who initiated the action.  But the initiating wrestler is always the one who penetrated the legs.  The wrestler doing the elevator/roll-through is almost always doing it as a desperation move -- a scenario where they'd belly out if it were folk, but in free they try to steal the points.  And it just isn't that hard for the defending wrestler to make it seem like they initiated by basically throwing themselves to their back.

Part of the problem is the refs call it INSANELY inconsistently, and it's honestly not much better after reply.  EVERY time we have this scoring sequence, the wrestler with fewer points challenges. More often than not they get their brick back.

It also invites corruption.  The rule is so malleable that we've seen all sorts of scandals involving this call, including at the Olympic level.  If a ref got paid off to fix a match, this is how they'd do it.

But those issues aside, the real problem is that far too often, the points go to the wrestler defending the leg attack, who hasn't really earned them.  Honestly, all the defending wrestler has to do is sell it, like a soccer player taking a dive, by making this big production of how you're grabbing your leg-attacking opponent and trying to flip them on their back -- even though everyone knows you were about to get put on your back yourself, unless you bellied out.

I'd change this rule to give the points to the leg-attacking wrestler basically every single time, giving up no points if you expose your own back while finishing your leg TD.  I don't care if you changed their trajectory or whatever.  The only exception I'd carve out is if the leg attacking wrestler wasn't already in the process of finishing the takedown.

Interesting, but arguably a much stronger team.  How dare they replace the other three wrestlers with clones.  That is not an improvement even if their clones are rested
