Why would citizens feel less safe?   This makes no sense at all to me.   Now if you are an illegal, then I can understand you not feeling safe.   But I don't understand citizens not feeling safe.   That's just weird and unreasonable.   

It's like saying there are police in the store to prevent shop lifting, I feel unsafe.   Just weird to me.

  2. Mark Daniel Lyttle

    • Lyttle, a U.S. citizen born in North Carolina, was wrongfully deported to Mexico in 2008 following errors (including false recording of his citizenship status and birthplace). Wikipedia+1

    • He later managed to return. Wikipedia

  3. Antonio Montejano

    • In 2011, under the Secure Communities program, Antonio (a U.S.-born citizen) was held in detention for four days because of an immigration hold triggered by erroneous database information. First of all, George W Bush was president during 2008 not Obama, and detaining and deporting US citizens is awful no matter what side of the aisle

Point is they occur under every admin.   The goal should be to minimize as close to zero if not zero…. but mistakes will happen.  No need for the press and politicians trying to scare the population as if this is a new phenomenon.   It isn’t.

Are you saying that of the thousands of legit detainments, there have been 3 that were not legit?   And that scares the American citizen?   No false detainment is good, but if ICE came to my workplace today or tomorrow or the next day, I would not be concerned at all one bit.

Interestingly, the Atlantic article states the following:

Mistreatment of American citizens by immigration authorities is not new. According to a 2021 Government Accountability Office report, the best available data indicate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 674 “potential” U.S. citizens, detained 121, and removed 70 during a five-year, six-month period that ended in 2020.

He spent approximately 3 years in “custody” under.   Drum roll.   Obama.     He was released in November 2011.   He spent 1,015 days in custody under.    Yep You guessed it.

Detainment isn't arrest. I've been detained for investigation purposes.  You don't have to be the subject of an investigation to be detailed. If you are in the company of criminals you have increased odds of being detained.
