earning an Expert badge with an M16 is not the same as being a "one shot, one kill" sniper. While both require good marksmanship, the standards, distances, and mental demands are completely different.

An Expert qualification means a soldier has solid fundamentals under controlled conditions. A Sniper is an advanced specialist trained to kill specific high-value targets under extreme pressure.

Here is how the two levels break down:

1. The Distances Involved

M16 Expert Qualification: The furthest target a soldier has to hit is 300 meters. Most targets pop up much closer, between 50 and 200 meters.

Sniper Level: Snipers regularly engage targets from 600 to over 1,200 meters. At these extreme distances, the bullet can drop dozens of feet before hitting the target.

2. Environmental Factors

M16 Expert: Soldiers shoot at a standardized range. Wind and air temperature have almost zero noticeable effect on a bullet traveling only 150 or 200 meters.

Sniper Level: Snipers must use complex math to calculate the Earth's rotation (Coriolis effect), wind speed, air humidity, barometric pressure, and angle of the shot. A mistake of just 1 mph in wind calculation can cause a sniper to miss entirely.

Yes. That's what I said. Not a sniper. Never claimed that. Still better than vast majority of the wingers. 

BTW, most soldiers qualify as marksman. My score was 33 to be exact.
