The Kazahk that Mocco beat at last U17s last year in 0:18s won in the finals.

Mirasola was the best HWT in the field.  His aggression cost him against the KAZ (who attempted one offensive move the entire match).

There's many different kinds of mental fortitude; just like there's many different kinds of fitness (bench press vs mile run etc).  No one is saying Lockett isn't skilled nor are they saying the late score to come back wasn't impressive or mentally strong but the complaining to the ref and exasperated gestures when something doesn't go his way does show at best an immaturity and at worst a lack of mental toughness.

It kinda reminds me of Anthony Valencia; not saying that's Lockett's collegiate future . . . just saying I see similar behavior when things don't go his way

I think lots of athletes complain to the ref without it showing any lack of mental toughness.  Burroughs and Dake are the two biggest complainers in the sport and maybe the two mentally toughest athletes we have.  The complaining doesn't lessen their ability to wrestle and win.  In Lockett's loss to Russia I think you could say he got caught up in complaining and it affected how he wrestled.  That's a mental toughness issue.  Complaining and not letting it affect your performance is not a mental toughness issue.  It's an optics issue at worst.  There were no mental toughness issues against Germany this morning.

He was for sure.

Cost him another four in the final 3/5...

You seem to be taking this personally and are adamant on fighting a semantics battle 3 hours later and I'm not looking to waste my time and everyone else on here's eyeballs fighting you over word choice so I'm going to try to wrap my thoughts succinctly here and leave it at that.

We both agree that to some extent Lockett's complaining to the official affected his wrestling in Bulgaria (I'm making that assumption off of you just now saying "I think you could say he got caught up in complaining and it affected how he wrestled").  However you want to classify it, I believe that is what both the original poster and myself were referencing and I am at least of the opinion that on a wrestling mat if Lockett focuses on wrestling than the sky's the limit but if he gets caught up in everything else like he appeared to show at this tournament then he'll also run the risk of having a repeat of how he placed at this tournament.  Mental toughness; something else - tomato; potato.

I agree with you. Would like to see Lockett let his coaches handle the refs. If he has an issue with the how things are being called or not called, communicate it to his coach. Focus on getting back to center and getting the next score.

Since I was at work... I really didn't have a chance to watch Stanich's semifinal match w/ Dzhandubaev, until now.

After watching it... IT WAS ALL-OUT HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT!

I never seen so much hand fighting than in that match.

I'm hoping that Luke will be ready for Uchida... because he is a very dangerous wrestler!

Be Ready, Luke!

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
