So is there an official list of D1 wrestling schools that have opted in? I know all the P4 schools are in. Does anyone know if say one of the MAC schools like Buffalo, Ohio, Kent St opt in does that automatically make them have to reduce their rosters to 30 kids immediately? That would result in a heck of alot of cutting

10-4 was just arguing about that with a head D2 coach. But will have to happen? So what is the deadline for say Bloomsburg? They got like 55 kids on roster!

I don't know about the rest of the MAC schools, but it's hard to see the PSAC schools - which, of course, compete in D2 in all sports except wrestling - ever opting in to revenue sharing with their athletes, especially given their financial situations. All of Bloomsburg's roster spots should be safe - BU needs those tuition dollars to keep flowing. 

Long term, don't be surprised if schools that don't opt in market themselves as "no cut". They won't compete with PSU, Iowa, etc., but more kids wrestling at more schools is, in my opinion, a good thing.

Sucks. I think Wyoming and UNI have new facilities in the works too? Can't remember who else. 

I think UNI will be funding its new wrestling facility 100% through direction donations, so hopefully it'll continue forward. However, UNI's athletic department hasn't been self-sustaining for at least a decade, and gets funding from the university's general fund to keep sports afloat. That's not a huge surprise, since the MVC doesn't pull big media money; but UNI athletics has opted-in to revenue sharing and it's unclear what its path forward to self-sufficiency is, especially when the BOR is under pressure to stop transferring money from academia to athletics. There was a proposal in the state legislature for Iowa and ISU to share a % of their sports revenue with UNI, but that was shot down to no one's surprise. Tough road ahead, haves vs. have-nots, etc. Panthers insiders here may have details on what's happening.

All but 50 or so schools have opted-in so at this point, it's might be easier to see which ones have opted-out of revenue sharing. For wrestling, I believe the schools are the Ivy League +

• Presbyterian

There was discussion of this I think on one of the BB recruitment threads. I think @MPhillips is referring to the Designated Student Athlete rule which grandfathers athletes onto their team. Schools aren't required to keep the extra athletes, but can name anyone who would've been cut from the roster as a DSA so they don't count towards the limit (and it also follows the athlete if he or she transfers, so they don't count against their new school's roster limit). 

I think the deadline has passed for schools to name their DSAs, so it's probably safe to assume that the guys you see on Bloomsburg's roster today are protected.

It has been going on so long someone said it was official, official last week. The thing that caught me off guard was so many non power 4's opting in. Everyone was saying most non power 4 schools wouldn't opt in. After the dust settled it looks like over 90% of the non power 4 schools opted in. That is disheartening. So all those non power 4 schools that opted in will have to eventually cut their rosters to 30 correct? Just doing quick math 500-600 wrestlers will be cut

Not right away. The wrestlers on the roster (and incoming freshman) that are over the roster limit are exempted from the roster limit for the rest of their careers (designated student athletes, I believe they will be called). The schools do not have to keep them on roster, but they can choose to keep them. And if one of those wrestlers chooses to transfer elsewhere his roster exemption follows him to his new school.
