He was in the (local) news again recently.

I thought maybe he had had enough scamming and went back to just coaching middle and high school, which he’d actually be qualified for.

But apparently in addition to that, he is still claiming to have been selected for the Tokyo Olympics and “currently serves as the Cabo Verde Wrestling Federation Secretary General and president of the Africa Referee Commission. Coach Wesley was nominated to the North American Indigitios Athletic Hall of Fame. He will be formally inducted into the NAIA class of 2025 this summer.

When does Eve Berrington get inducted into a hall of fame? She's set several records.

Most US Opens without a win.

Most US Opens without scoring a point.

Most US Opens and least amount of time wrestled.

Shortest tech fall (10 seconds)

With accomplishments like that Eve Berrington should be a shoo in for some hall of fame somewhere. Or even better, she can invent her own. 🤣

What’s the problem here?

Rhode Island has zero wrestling culture, dude is trying to grow that, and it sounds like he had an avenue to a mercenary qualification to the Africa qualifiers.

So he gets to share stories and open kids eyes about the world beyond, and what wrestling can do for them…

What’s wring with that?

When I was in High School I went to a wrestling camp at a high school on cape cod.  Coach there got an old Iranian veteran wrestler and a sambo world medalist to come in.

Coming out of that camp a number of kids who were new made it to d3 teams, and a bunch of kids got kept on the right path because he had some fun entertaining guys who knew some stuff and who knew how to blow smoke at teenagers.

It was great.

He's been fired from multiple coaching jobs for lying or other misconduct. He actually isn't in charge of anything in Cabo Verde anymore and he was not selected to participate in the Olympics. He did try to obtain a quote but he didn't get it. He undermined people, stole, and misrepresented himself to both Cabo Verde's Olympic delegation and UWW. So he is not a good guy at all. He even got kicked out of coaching at a qualifier last year for using fake credentials.

Thank you for educating me.  I’d never heard of this dude before.

Keeping lying crappy coaches out of the coaching pool is always an important use of time.

Before he discovered he was eligible to wrestle for Cabo Verde he was named coach here. https://victorysportsnetwork.com/2021/10/15/wesley-named-head-wrestling-coach-at-health-sciences-pharmacy/

It lasted about 2 weeks before they fired him because of his shady past. He never coached there officially other than the press release.

The article I posted was from 2 weeks ago.  He’s not the Cabo Verde Wrestling Federation Secretary General or President of the Africa Referee Commission anymore?

Rhode Island is getting a lot better, particularly Ponagansett which seems to be improving at a rapid pace.

A few different people have told me similar things. There are a few different "official" federations, and he's in charge of the one that used to be the main one, but the Olympic committee for Cabo Verde or something found that the money he was given to fund clubs was used to jet him and his son around first class for a few years so they could act like big shots. I know that Leigh Jaynes is in charge of or working with a rival organization to his, or something to that effect. She was apparently supposed to rep Cabo Verde at one point but Wesley actually got them to hold up her credentials because he thought it would jeopardize him getting an Olympic quota if she was around because it would likely have gone to her since she has better wrestling credentials. I've heard from a few different people he's being investigated for various frauds, and that Cabo Verde might prosecute him for stealing money from the federation. Either way he's not a good guy.

Oh wow, I thought he was just the king of majorly exaggerating (and pretty much lying about) his credentials.  Didn’t realize he’s suspected of actual crimes.  Sounds like he’s basically the George Santos of wrestling

Yeah I mean the story that several people said was that UWW gave him a bunch of money to grow wrestling and establish a club system but he just used it on himself and his son.

I mean people don’t just get nominated to be a Hall of Famer by a reputable organization  without any credibility…not sure what your experience was with him, or what your sources of information are besides “I know a someone”, but every one of his accomplishments can be verified dude so idk where you’re coming from with the disparaging remarks. Not cool attacking someone who’s trying to grow the sport of wrestling in communities (domestic and international) because you’re a hater.

Well he wasn’t selected to represent Cabo Verde at the Olympics, for starters

I don't know enough about the specific case of Wesley but have heard others talk about it.

In my experience at work, we have sniffed out several people who greatly embellished on their resume over the year, but I'm sure that even more people got stuff by us without us having the information to verify.

Two instances I can best remember were:

1) Representing Harvard Extension School as Harvard University and speaking about it as if they had been accepted to the university
2) Person who had done an internship delivering coffees to the local news station wrote "Emmy Award Winner" on her resume because that news station ended up winning a local news emmy award

Is the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame a reputable organization?  If so they hurt their credibility by inducting this guy.

I am sure the stuff in his bio is true on some level.  For example "represented Team USA six times" Isn't like David Taylor representing the USA at 5 world championships and 1 Olympics.  It's more like Wesley maybe won a match in a sparse veterans nationals bracket and was willing to go to veterans worlds and 5 other similarly unimpressive feats.  If he represented the USA at 6 events that were remotely impressive he would write about those events.  Instead he writes "represented Team USA six times" to imply something that is more impressive than reality.

I’d like to see everyone’s bio when it comes to wrestling and their background to see what they’re done.  In order to make a hall of fame you obviously have to have credibility in Wrestling and to have accomplishments.  Without facts or proof you shouldn’t throw someone under the bus let alone their son without knowing them.  Unless you have first hand experience. I don’t feel you should comment on someone’s character

I totally agree, Wesley.

2 sock puppets from August Wesley today? It sounds like he's learning from Eve Berrington after all. 🤣

Does this dude google his name like everyday or something?  Lol, that must be how he gets his embellishment skills
