Based on his recent interview it seems like he won't be seeing 74 any time in the near future.

Is this a tacit admission of aging?

I'd think this means he's likely to committ upwards during the next Olympic cycle. Perhaps Mesenbrink as a partner has wore down his desire to stay at 74 haha.

In terms of muscle mass I think men tend to reach peak potential around age 40 i heard....So all things being equal you tend to bulk up till then...

Seems like 74 had been a rough cut for Dake for some time now. He did all right when he dipped his toes in at 86 for a little while and at this stage of his career, why not give it a go? I can't imagine being in your mid-30s and sucking down 1-2 international weight classes being very pleasant.

The irony of Dake choosing to compete in a full tournament and then be well-rested for the best of three at a later date is certainly something. It's apples to oranges for WTT vs Final X procedures, but nonetheless the irony is still worthy of a hearty chuckle

He's really not that tall and I don't think he will have the leverage advantage at 86kg.  79 kg he will most likely dominate, but he is too old and small for 86 kg. But, if anybody could do it, it's Kyle Dake.

He lost to the Olympic Bronze medalist in controversial fashion at 86kg when he was definitely smaller. He'll be in the game.

Have you seen him in person?  He's kind of small in stature,  which makes his domination of Taylor even more impressive.

One of the best "What Ifs" in recent time is how much earlier he would've made the world/Olympic team under the current setup.

He went through some absolutely insane gauntlets prior to meeting fresh JB several times. In retrospect it's wild.

I love his effort and determination.  I'm glad he is still competing.
