Might be a bit late but if we’re talking all time I’m still taking Lee getting pinned by Ramos. He was dominant all year was up late and got stuck to the surprise of everyone but those in Ramos’s corner. I had earlier this year called my shot that HWT is a 3 horse race. If it weren’t for Kerks injury we might’ve had a different final all together which might hurt my case but if you had watched Wyatt all year you knew he looked like a world beater. I understand he’s an Olympic gold medalist but he had been off the mat for a while. So I think it was a great match(maybe even a lil scripted) but the better upset happened in the semis 2023

Anything can happen - anything at all.

Lee had other losses and so did Gable S.

If Dan Gable was wrestling in this modern era, I doubt he finishes with only one loss.  Just a theory, do not mean to blaspheme a well-respected icon of this great sport.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That’s like saying MJ would only average 23 6 & 5 in modern times. No insults but the product (Aka wrestling) gets better over time. Our athletes are smarter stronger and faster than ever

Sure, if  you were to take them out of their era and drop them into the 2025 season they would certainly lose because technique, training methods, technology and diet/nutrition are all much better now.  But if you were to give them a year to learn new techniques, I bet it would be a different story....they had the right mindset, athleticism and toughness...I have no doubt their training regimen would catch them up to speed.

Quint Kessenich: Dan, with all the great wrestlers on the mat today, how well do you think you would do at the NCAA Tournament?

Dan Gable: Well, I figure against today's grapplers that I'd probably win a little more than half of my matches and squeak into the tournament as a 20-something seed.

Quint Kessenich: That's surprising. A little more than .500 record? You lost just one time in your collegiate career and won a couple of titles. We'd all like to know why you think you'd struggle to make the NCAA field.

Dan Gable: Well, I'm 76 f*cking years old you ignorant SOB.

Dan Gable would struggle to All American. These kids are waaaay better now.

I'd say a big upset was Rob Rohn vs Josh Lambrecht.   Not on the scale of Owings/Gable or Gable/Hendrickson, but a stunner no less.   He won the Gorrarian award that year for most pins in the least time.   His last four matches ended with a pin.   There's one we don't discuss much.

If Dan Gable came up now, he would be highly successful because he would be Dan Gable with all the mental toughness and better techniques etc.   Would he be a one loss for HS and College.   Maybe not.   But he would be a champion in my opinion.

Also I had my son watch some of Dan Gable's matches. He said he looks like a solid mid level state champ in high school. Kind of like the 72 Dolphins....would get blanked 65-0 by the Eagles, Bills or Chiefs and I am being nice.

Agree wasn't looking at it as if Dan grew up now with all the modern training advantages these kids have now
