What doesn't make sense?

Some schools know they have a good 'pincher' for it.  Other schools don't chance it.  This runs rampant at every level there are alpha certifications.  Some will do it as early as they can, and some make their guys get down to the weight and have ZERO fails along the hydration portion of it (interesting, huh?).  It is also why we see stark contrasts between teams like Iowa State and Penn State with their certifications.  Hell, the reason for the failures of the gents for Iowa State, I would wager, are due to hydration.

Well... just as I said, that they'd make scratch weight for certification.

No, we just scooped water out of the toilet and nobody said anything.

But that was a while ago, I thought the certification was a bit more... rigorous now. For instance, now we have someone other than our trainer come in and they test(last I heard anyway).

Or they didn't test, but alright.

Just didn't really make sense to me to have a guy make weight for nothing, especially since... at least WAY back in the in the mid aughts, you could just re-test if you were off. So if you certified at 174.8 or you were too far over, you could wait and... certify later. Like PSU with Kasak, Duke. Safe to assume one will go '57 this year, but Kasak is certified at '74 and Duke isn't in there at 157? Or Nagao. I assumed he was going '41, but he's "certified" at '57. So if they're saying you can only go down one weight from certification...

But that's all, it just seems like a miserable experiance, I thought the weight you certified at wa...the weight you could go to, and that first cut and you have to do it hydrated and you have to do it with no match on the line and make scratch weight.

For all the guys who haven't Wrestled all off-season or who are going down from where they Wrestled, them getting down, on weight and hydrated... plus my belief that "certified," meant those were the weights they were... certified to Wrestle.

That's why is didn't "make sense" to me to do it this way.

74 and 84 would be my guess

That's brutal. Also, something else that doesn't make sense to me.

Ferrari is the #1 ranked guy on Wrestlestat, McEnelly who took 3rd with losses to just Starocci and PK in very close matches is #2, Sinclair is #8, Ryder 12th and Mantanona 6th.

I would think they'd want to be at '65 and '74 again given the insane depth and youth at '84, but... Mantanona is probably confident he's in that group... so long as he doesn't have any of the Refs that did the Mantanona's HS State Finals matches at the B1Gs or NCAAs...

This is what Wrestlestat is showing for Northern Iowa right now  - vs what I think its going to be:
125: Trever Anderson - no argument here
133: Julian Farber - in agreement
141: Carter Freeman - I think Cory Land will take it
149: Caleb Rathjen - yep
157: Cael Rahnavardi - I think Ryder Downey or Jack Thomsen sucks down
165: Ryder Downey - see above
174: Jared Simma - yes
184: CJ Walrath - mm hm
197: Kalob Runyon - I think John Gunderson bumps up and surprises folks
285: Wyatt Volker - agreed

I've seen rumors of Land 33 and Farber moving up to 41, but I'm not sure if that is still a possibility

If they can get Downey back at 157 and Thomsen at 165, that's a good team.
