immediately the shocking ones to me are McNelly and Little. Every match I have watched of them I think has gone to OT aside from McNelly and Allred. Cannon is a pretty incredible story with what he went through in high school. Alirez's bonus rate is actually down from his national title season and his SOS is not even close, not sure if that's any indicator of his wrestling level right now just something I noticed.

Team Leaders.

That title is not exactly accurate as I am only including the average of every team's top 33 wrestlestat ranked wrestler.

So for context I include the number of ranked wrestlers.

That is a pretty big gap between 1 and 2.

Wow, the Buckeyes and Huskers really got in some reps this season. Is there a way to constrain the dataset to duals only? I'm wondering if that gives a better sense of team performance.

Speaking of, hell of a great dual last night in IC. Bonus points were flying. Parco and Hamiti came very close to majoring their opponents - that would've been 9 matches with bonus. We need a dual excitement index, which is the % of matches in a dual with bonus OR the most bonus points in a dual, AND the winning team not having more than 50% of the bonus matches or points

Sadly, not without a huge amount of manual labor.

On an unrelated note, I have an unpaid internship opening available.

He absolutely does. The opponents just stall more

His highest major this year is against #9 ranked opponent …. It’s approx 9 , 11 , 14 I think his major or tf against ranked opponents.

Wonder what it would look like if you throw out matches against opponents outside the Wrestlestat top 50.

89.9% still higher than all but four wrestlers against any competition.

For the guys want to stick to this "oh, he can't do it against the top guys" narrative, that has not been the case this year. His only non-bonus was against a guy who spent a disproportionate amount of time out of bounds.

It turns out that it takes two to tango.

Edit: If you limit it to just top 50 wrestlers, Starocci is 8 for 9, or 89.9% (as mentioned above). That drops him down to......well, it does not drop him down. He is still third on the list.

But what if we limit it to top 33 guys, likely tournament qualifiers, well at 83.3% (5 of 6) he drops to....again, he does not drop. Still third.

He's undefeated.

He's won 4 National Titles. The only NON-Major of the year was a guy who just beat the #3 ranked Wrestler, last years runner up and that Wrestler backed up the entire match.

Your Starocci obsession is amusing at this point. Iowa has the best stallers vs him. That's...about the extent of the bragging rights you've got right now.

Even if he was backing up the whole match(he wasn’t). Wouldn’t you expect a sixth year senior to get a single takedown against a true freshman?

Wouldn't you expect the GOAT not to get pinned in the semifinals by a guy who never even won a NCAA title?

Starocci does not mind physically dominating his opponent, shutting down their offense, and winning by small margins. For most wrestlers those kind of tactics are dangerous leaving little room for error. But Starocci is on an 86 contested match win streak using those tactics. How many of those matches has he trailed in? I doubt it is as high as five. Everyone thinks they are close, but they really are not.

Now, what I said was "disproportionate time out of bounds", not "backing up the whole match". Ferrari absolutely spent a disproportionate time out of bounds. He did this even after being told to return to the middle. This is undeniable. And this is what granted Starocci the lead that he never relinquished, or even looked to be at risk of relinquishing.

3 torn ACLs will do that to anybody. Good thing is he's as close to 100% as he's been since high school at the moment.
