Great matches by Cael Hughes and Caleb Fish. Nice calls by the guys who called Fish.

Agree.  Those guys were technically the only upsets right (and Fish/Scott was really a tossup)?  The Cowboys looked good as they have all season but I’d hold off if people are overreacting to this dual in particular.   Don’t want to sound too negative but they were favored in every other match, their highest ranked guy lost (although Robinson is a title contender), and their biggest win came from a guy who’s probably not even the starter.

Oklahoma State looked great. As an NC State fan, I was very happy with Robinson and not much else tbh.  Too much cutesiness out of the pack.  Scott needs to go out and get it.  Singleton was fine, I suppose.

I think NC State is still a top 10 dual team.  That is just the difference between the top 3 and everyone else.  I also don't see the Pack being able to beat UNI in a dual as presently constituted.  I think a dual with Nebraska would be very, very close.  I think the Pack has some bad matchups vs. Minnesota and tOSU.

I can see the Wolfpack as a 7th or 8th in duals.  Not much lower or higher.

I know the sample size is not great but it's hard for me not to think that v rob is a top 3 guy at 125 right now at least with a one-day weigh in. I really do worry about him in a tournament setting where he is weighing in multiple times, he is huge for 125, but his power coupled with his technical ability are something else. He seemed absolutely dead to writes on that takedown on the third but just needed a little bit of elevation and came out the back. I am not yet ready to say I favor him over Ramos, but he is firmly in the conversation for me.

Ramos is his one loss.  I also do not favor him in that matchup, as long as Ramos doesn't revert to last year's form.

I didn’t think he looked any bigger than Spratley, but then again I probably wouldn’t be good at the carnival weight guessing game

Robinson surprised me, I didn't know he was as good as he is. I think Spratley probably takes him next time.

Fish wrestled a pretty good match. He scrambled better than Scott, nullified Scott's upper body stuff, and got off a couple good takedowns.  That crazy takedown/NF at the end sealed the deal. I could easily see another match between those guys ending with the exact opposite score.

Cael Hughes was impressive. I wonder what's happening with him and Witcraft?

The NCSU wrestlers gave pretty good scrap though, you have to be satisfied with that.  Fishback kept it pretty close, although he stalled his ass off nearly the entire match, with Plott. His picture before the match reminded me of this guy from Animal House.

After Robinson, the NC State guy that impressed me most was Trumble.  He had a much better showing than the last time he wrestled Hendrickson.  Was even riding him for awhile.  I was kinda surprised he cut him, I feel like he probably had a better chance of getting a turn from top than getting multiple takedowns

Since David Taylor arrived, the Cowboys have nearly matched the aggression of the Nittany Lions.  A lot of good teams out there with guys who wrestle very conservatively.  Leaves them vulnerable to an upset, IMO.  If you truly believe yourself to be better than your opponent, you want to open up the match as much as possible so you have wrestling opportunities to demonstrate this belief.  That philosophy resonates with me.

Except Amine...

That was the most competitive dual a team has given OSU thus far imo. The Robinson win was huge, and then your guys kept Hamiti, Plott, and Hendrickson away from bonus points. That's honestly impressive

I don't get that kid. He's got some good offensive stuff but doesn't use it much.

He defaulted that one though, right? Did he step foot on the mat? I was under the impression he just did not wrestle at all day 2 of cklv. I think ramos can get his feet off the mat on his leg attacks which should mitigate a lot of the scrambling. He also should do pretty well with Robinsons miss direction stuff.

Correct.  Injury default. Hurt ankle, i think?  Limped off the mat after winning the round before Ramos at CKLV.  Last night was his first match back, pretty sure.

He flicked Spratley's between the whistle swagg off like a pesky fly!

Thought Vince Robinson looked really good, and Spratley has been very good all season. Was Robinson a big-time recruit I don't recall hearing much about him in HS.

he won ironman in 2021 was always a placer at the big tournaments but that was probably his best showing. I don't think he ever won Illinois state which is pretty crazy. He was definitely a top 10 guy at his weight not sure if he was top 5 though, probably a top 40 guys for his class.

Wasn't he like 138?

Good Fargo results?

FWIW, I predicted the score exactly as it was...

I think he wrestled 138 his senior year and he and his brother both wrestled 150 at folk nats following his senior season. I know he placed at Fargo in 2021 his bracket was pretty insane (Ayala, volk, prove and I believe Lemley were in it), not sure about any other times.

Maybe @IlliniWrestling @ILLINIWrestlingBlogKnows more since hes an IL kid.

Vincent Robinson and Kannon Webster had battles in high school. They crossed paths at a lot of tournaments. Now, we've seen Webster gain weight (and especially height) and Robinson wrestle smaller. I'm actually pretty shocked at what Vincent is doing, and not because he doesn't have talent, he's got loads of that.

It just seemed that in every big match he got hurt.

Whether it was real or just a lung timeout, I don't know. He had the knee pads, braces or something. I've faked injury in the past to get a sweet lung timeout, so I'm not calling him out for that. Do what you gotta do.

He's obviously sorted everything out in his head, and if that's the case, he's gonna be dynamite. Cheers!
