Best high school tournament begins this Friday. Will Blair and Wyoming Sem be the favorites per usual? Hoping to see some great nationally ranked matches from quarterfinals on.

Sem will be up there I think Mccort,Sem,Faith christian are probably the front runners.

seeds will be released tomorrow night.

Top 50 Team Rankings

Blair is down a tad and will be missing two of their three best for Ironman with #1-Deluca (injury) and #4-Dekraker (not sure) both out.

#2-Will Henckel is at 175 with Fargo Champ Aaron Stewart and S32 Champ Asher Cunningham (Casey's kid) the 2/3 seeds.

Woah, I didn’t know Aaron Stewart was moving up to 175. I thought he was going to be a 165 lber in college. I guess he will be 174/184 in college. Give me Stewart to come out on top 👀

Stewart got Asher here last year but he was spending his fall running for like 300 yards a game I think Im picking the winner of that semi to take the entire thing over Will in the finals what say you mister Brain ill go Cunningham he seems to make great adjustments looking at Bambinelli from elite 8's to super 32.

Asher is difficult to predict haha. that's kinda what makes him good.

I'll be boring and stick with Henckel.

Any chance we see Melvin miller at 175? he wrestled 172 in their dual meet, he would be giving up a ton of size but that appears to be how they get their best guys all out on the mat.

Pre-seeds should be out some time today. Blair out with at least 2 starters as Willy stated; I know Eds is missing 2-3 starters due to football just ending last week for them.

Could McCort make a run at 2nd assuming Wyoming Sem is the odds on favorite?

Didnt realize Blaze was up at 138lbs. Guys at Flo predicted him to be a 141 in college so I guess that makes sense.  Him vs Vega in the finals will be worth the price of admission.  Hope to see it!

I would watch out for FCA making a run at those top 3 spots. They are a better dual than tournament team but could realistically have multiple finalists/champs

Carfley, small Herring and Pensiero will be huge for mccort to be able to make it interesting. Penseiro goes for broke a lot but he nearly knocked off claudio torres at super 32 and both Carfley and Herring have notched top 20 wins just have not been quite as consistent. FCA from 107-127 are unreal though and then they have Weidmoyer,Waters,Effendian up top who could all finish as top 5 nationally ranked guys this year imo Waters has already been up there.

my predictions

1&2) FCA/Sem in some order

- having bigs at IM/Powerade/ETR/Doc B is huge. FCA's bigs will score monster points along with 113/120/126. i think their tourney hinges on 138-157

- Sem is missing Bouzakis and has major question marks at a lot of weights. i think they deserve their ranking, however it is one of the weaker preseason #1 teams i can remember.

3rd - Lake Highland - with a perfect storm, it wouldn't even be that shocking if they won it.

- from 138 up, everyone is ranked except for Miguel Rojas (who was at Sem last year).

4) McCort

- there's truly a path for them to win this. you could make a case that they have the most locks to podium.

5) Stillwater

- i don't see a way they can win it, but i could see them from 3rd to 5th.

Ironman takeaways so far:

I said we are not going to realize how good Seth mendoza is until hes not hitting Jax/Luke every tournament and I stand by that kids absolutely nails and looks like he could end up as a 141/149 in college.

The Bachmann brothers just win and it never looks especially pretty but they always get it done. They are both super young but I do think their style as of now will not translate super well in college but they have a ton of time to figure it out.

Blaze is very much ok with taking what someone gives him I anticipate he beats Mendoza by a takedown or two and people discuss him vs Jax again which very much would be a match but I think Blaze very much has that Dake style where he just gets it done and while the score is close the match never really is.

Asher Cunningham will be the third best recruit of the 2025 class for PSU behind duke and Blaze

Jax has added some leg attacks which I really think is all he needed to do. The times hes lost its felt like his opponents took away that elbow control and he struggled to generate his own offense then.

I think Stanton vs Bassett could be a match early before pace becomes a factor.

Has Bassett been 144 all year?  I don’t really follow HS so could be wrong here but for some reason I thought he had been at 138 (where Blaze was here)

Posted (edited)

Not to get all fanboy about Bassett, but ... has anyone ever had a more dominant run at Ironman than Bassett's run this past weekend?  He won every match by tech, including in the finals in 2:23 -- which was the LONGEST of all his technical falls.  I mean... c'mon.  That's insane.

Adam waters I believe teched or pinned his way through as well. Neither guy was at the most competitive weight but its still ironman so obviously the competition is still stiff. Andrew Alton may have pinned his way through back in 2009 as well.
