Bomb Cyclone hits Pacific Northwest

BOMB CYCLONE HIT!!!!!!!!

It was a good wind storm, winds coming from the east as the cyclone sucked air from the east side of the state. Our house is ok, cars too. No trees down but lots of branches. But the neighborhood has trees down that have brought all the electrical and cable wires down to the road. We are out of power until maybe Saturday according to the power company. I’m thinking we have until Wed. We’ll see. So we also don’t have internet which is why I didn’t post yesterday. No idea when that will come back. Got the generator working and it powers the house about 50%, with freezers and fridges all running which is good. I could not go out Tue night to start the generator because my wife thought it was too dangerous to be out there. Stuff in the freezers was starting to get a little soft but not bad.  

My granddaughter is giving me great glee. She is 14 and apoplectic that there is no internet. Can’t live without it. Life is horrible.  She just can't understand how this could happen.   Internet is always there.   Good thing we have a generator or she would have died from withdrawals.   Ha!!!

Winds are coming again tonight I heard on the radio.   That might be a double whammy for the trees that barely survived.   Tue night there were a few very loud cracks, indicative of trees breaking or big branches breaking, and then some crashing.   Fortunately, they were far from us.   We are surrounded by 100 ft trees and have been ok so far. 

With the generator we are warm as it powers the blower motor for the nat gas furnace.   We have hot water since that is nat gas as well.   We have frozen and cold food that is safe so we are doing pretty good all things considered.

Thanks guys.   The winds tonight are not supposed to be as severe.   The area is like a bomb hit.   The eastside really got nailed with this.    That generally equates to just about anything east of a north-south line going through Lake Washington.    Bellevue, Issaquah, Redmond, Renton, Kent, Auburn, Enumclaw, Carnation, Bothell, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Monroe, Snoqualmie, North Bend and unincorporated King County which is where I live.

I was wondering how you were doing out there. I'm glad you are ok. These things are pretty rare. Do you have any idea how they are formed?

This happened to at least one home in my neighborhood.   And another in a few miles down the road.   At least two trees fell in the neighborhood taking out over head power and other infrastructure lines.  I had to drive over power lines and just underneath to get to work. 

One fatality in another town was a lady taking a shower when the tree came down.   She was dead before aid could come.
