Hopke tore his pec first week on campus, unfortunately.

At 197, Nelson is right there with Salazar. Not sure on 165.

Thank you!  Bummer about Hopke.

Thanks MNRodent!  How did the freshman look (Millard, Hopke, Duchateau, etc.)?

Do you have a feeling on how 165 and 197 will look next year after Sparks/Salazar move on?  I'd guess Brenner and Nelson would move into the starting lineup?

Nelson and Nagel scored only an escape each against each other, if I remember correctly.  Salazar scored an escape, a takedown and ride out against Nelson.

Hopke is out injured. Millard and DuChateau looked good but Askey, VomBaur, and Roberts had the edge on them, although the young guys did score some takedowns.

If Askey gets/takes another year in 25-26, I would guess either him or Millard would go up to 165.

If Hopke is out injured, will we see Nelson at HWT this season to relieve him, or does he not win that battle either?

Is there going to be any way to watch this other than attending in person?

Possibly, but I doubt it.  Tabor is considerably larger (~40 lbs heavier than last year) and I think will have a good year.

No way Nelson goes HWT, from a source pretty close to that situation lol

I hope he does, too... but not getting Nelson in to the lineup when he was the recruit he was is going to be a tough bullet to bite.

So you're saying even if he cannot earn the spot at 197, he is okay holding 197lbs all year when he could potentially beat the guy the next weight up and get experience?

He can’t beat Tabor, now that Tabor is 265.

Nelson would be more likely to get injured at HWT than he would be able to win many big ten matches.

Tabor might be 265, but he isn't 265lbs of functioning muscle, when he was 220lbs last year.  Nobody puts on 40lbs of functionable muscle in 6 months.

Edit: I agree on chance of getting hurt.  I still believe Nelson is a better option because he is a much better wrestler.  There was nothing that Tabor did last year that could make me think otherwise.

The preliminary matches yesterday were streamed on their Instagram page. I would hope that at the least the final matches tonight would be as well.

I was skeptical of the amount of "good" weight gain too, until I saw him in person last week.  He has a huge frame, and it looks like his legs have almost doubled in size.  The Gophers have always had a great strength program, and current coach Scott McWilliams is carrying on the tradition.

I am happy to be wrong, if so.  I enjoyed his movement and if he can keep that, while improving his skillset and power he could be a sleeper.

I'm writing a preview of the ILLINI/ASU dual next weekend, and I need those results on my desk by 5 pm.

Trackwrestling has the results. The match is labeled Maroon and Gold. I hear the Schultz match was against a couple different opponents but only one is listed in the results.

Doubt it

I saw where it was mentioned that results would be available via trackwrestling but I saw nothing on that site about it.  And no news on it on the ASU wrestling website (that I could find).

If you find ASU's team on track and click schedule it has Maroon and Gold invite listed

I used your notes here in our Preview of the November 2nd dual between the ILLINI and SIUE. I also gave you and Intermat Forums credit.

SIUE is on the up. A good young nucleus, and Daryl Thomas is a great recruiter and coach. Cheers!

But are the Illini hauling the mat down there and is SIUE really gonna use it?  Expecting a lot of mid age women in the crowd.

Just want to point out that the mat was black and red with white lettering.  I saw no good looking mid aged women in attendance.  That could've been camera angle or glare off ceiling light issues.  But that mat issue has me questioning if IWB is providing factual info in the SMCs.  Don't forget to wake up early tomorrow.

The Illini looked great except for 125 and Ruth.  Edmond decided to only wrestle 10 seconds of the match.  Sure it was enough but still ...
