All the current GR world champions with long international win streaks are currently Iranian. Esmaeili (19), Saravi (28), and Mirzazadeh (11).

All the other 2025 world champions have since lost (Lolua, Sultangali, Khalmakhanov, Ganizade, Amoyan, Farokhi, Komarov).

P4P GR ranking must be dominated by Iranians.

Our greco team is very very strong with even our guys who didn't win worlds last year being contenders to win this year (Keshtkar, Ahmadi and Mohmedi). We are really only weak in 60 and 77 but I think Oskou has looked good this year and might be able to medal. I'm not too sure on Ahmadi Vafa I think it was better for him to stay at 55, I'm hoping Shamsipour grows into a good 60 since I doubt Ahmadi would move up from 55.

Looking at the Russian and US system I feel like they are much better at developing wrestlers across the weights than we are. I'm not sure whether that's because of talent identification or whether our coaches are unable to develop wrestlers stylistically for certain weights. I feel like for 125 we have the best development system in the world but for the lighter weight classes it seems our wresters wrestle like heavy weights which causes them a lot of problems internationally against guys with good leg attacks and par terre. I don't think its a genetic or population issue for the most part as we develop good light weights in greco I think it is a more systematic problem.

Sohrabi as well.

Ahmadi Vafa is young and 60kg is unbelievably stacked, he is good and I think he deserves some patience. The reality is he would probably beat Ahmadi since 60kg is much stronger than 55kg. We saw what happened to Azizli, who dominated 55kg, every time he tried to move up to 60kg.

Thankfully for 77kg, Oskou came out of nowhere and became a real contender at 77, which is not as strong as it has been in the past. Alireza Abdevali is also not bad and very young, he could improve a lot with time still.

We have to be aware that this is the strongest greco team Iran has ever had, and one of the strongest ever for any country, and we should enjoy it while it lasts.

I forgot about Sohrabi and I agree he can win gold just depends on whether he draws Ghanem again or not since that guy wrestles really dirty. Thinking about it now 60 is a very deep weight class surprisingly it seems most countries have a strong contender in it. I've been expecting a lot more from Ahmadi Vafa though since he is a U20 and U23 champ but sometimes it takes time to transition from juniors and seniors especially moving up a weight class too. I feel like this greco team is the closest we will ever get in terms of elite talent across the weight classes since there isn't really anyone in a particular weight that you can say isn't a high level wrestler. In 5-10 years time I wonder how this team stacks up in terms of accolades and accomplishments it will be fun to watch for sure.

I've been thinking about who would be Iran's all time freestyle line up if we consider the current 10 weights. Here are the guys I can think of off the top of my head.

57: Alireza Dabir

61: Morad Mohammadi

65: Emam-Ali Habibi

70: Abdollah Movahed

74: Hassan Yazdani

79: Mansour Mehdizadeh

86: Gholamreza Takhti

92: Rasoul Khadem

97: Reza Yazdani

125: Komeil Ghasemi

I've had to slightly alter some of these guys since weight classes aren't one to one but I feel like this is our best overall team. I think it is a very strong team.

Amir Zare is ten times the wrestler Ghasemi was. Ghasemi won joint Olympic gold with Makhov because the two finalists both tested positive. Ghasemi never won a world championships and won 3 Olympic/World medals in his life while Zare became a 3x world champion and 2x Olympic medalist (and 6x Olympic/World medalist) at the age of 24.

Morad Mohammadi is more accomplished at the weight. Would he beat 61 Kahlili? Very strong team that could leave off Kahlili!!

Are you talking about Rahman Amouzad? Rahman wasn't that good at 61 compared to 65 so yes he would be better than him. For Rahman to make the team it would require him to win a couple more worlds and an Olympic gold imo.

I was tossing up between putting Zare in but I thought it would have been to early for him to be in since he is still so young but now that I think about it Zare is our best heavy weight of all time. Just needs an Olympic gold now.

Hot take, but - and you can fact check my thoughts on this board back when the 2020ne olympics were coming up + after - Zare would beat Steveson that year.

I also believe, and said many times before and after, that the best thing for USA wrestling would be a Steveson silver because he would be angry and hungry which would have compeled Steveson to take a very different path, thought I stand by my sentiments past and present that he was an apex athlete who dominated his sport but had also... for lack of a better term, HEW.

I genuinely do believe Zare would have beaten Steveson in Tokyo had they met up. I also believe Steveson would have begun a generational epic battle between the two, with Steveson on the winning side. Geno would be the short term wildcard, but after that... it would be two titans with clashing styles constantly one-upping each other.

I do not fault Steveson for pursuing other endeavors. He has that right as a human, and he earned that leeway as a competitor.

Zare would B2A if that match happened today.

i am an idiot on the internet

I honestly think you are being too optimistic for this team.

Momeni DNP, Ebrahimzadeh DNP, Emami DNP, Nokhodi Gold, Azarpira Bronze, Zare Gold

Abbaspour DNP, Rezaei DNP, Abdevali Bronze, Farokhi Silver, Mohammadi DNP, Mirzazadeh Gold

Our freestyle and greco teams without our main guys are going to get massacred against the rest of Asia's A teams it is not going to be fun to watch at all imo. At 87 greco the Kyrgyz guy beat Farokhi already and gave Mohmedi a tough time at worlds last year and since Farokhi is an 82 kg wrestler he is going to lose bad against him as well. I just don't see a lot of these guys medalling in a tournament which every wrestler their is every other countries' best apart from a couple of these guys.

I agree but feel like Ali Geraei needs to be here somehow he is one of Iran's greatest greco guys maybe ahead of Farokhi at 82 or Abdevali at 77 he may not have won as much but he is by far one our most technical.

I mean that could have possibly happened but it could have been just as likely the same result would have happened with Steveson beating Zare and then retiring. If he continued wrestling though it would have been the next Yazdani and Taylor rivalry that I would agree with but not too sure if Steveson ends up on the winning side. Its a shame it never happened as Steveson is probably one of those big what ifs in wrestling for sure.

well you only disagree on the margins for a few of them

Emami is better than you give him credit for, he finished 5th in worlds last year

Farokhi also beat Zhanyshov, they are 1-1, so I do not assume he will lose again

This is apparently Irans U23 list for freestyle and greco

61: Ibrahim Khari (U20 silver and U23 bronze 2024)

65: Ahoura Khateri (U20 silver 2025 and bronze 2026)

70: Ibrahim Elahi (U20 bronze 2025)

74: Ali Karampour (U20 bronze 2024)

79: Mehdi Yousefi (U20 bronze 2024, U20 gold 2025, U23 gold 2024 and U23 bronze 2025)

86: Reza Afshar (U17 gold 2024)

92: Abolfazl Rahmani (U20 bronze 2024, 2025, U20 silver 2026 and U23 bronze 2025)

97: Mobin Azimi (U20 gold 2023 and U23 gold 2025)

125: Abolfazl Mohammadnejad (U20 silver 2025, U20 gold 2026 and U23 gold 2025)

Greco:

55: Armin Shamsipour (U20 gold 2026)

60: Mohammad Ashiri

63: Erfan Jarkani (U20 bronze 2024 and U23 bronze 2024)

67: Mohammad Kamali

72: Ahmadreza Mohsennejad (U20 gold 2023, 2024 and U23 bronze 2025)

77: Ahoura Bouveiri (U20 silver 2025)

82: Abolfazl Mohmedi (U23 bronze 2025)

87: Yasin Yazdi (U20 silver 2023)

97: Mohammadhadi Seydi (U20 silver 2025)

125: Abolfazl Fathitazangi (U20 silver 2024 and U20 bronze 2025)

Overall a pretty strong team across both classes with a lot of junior level medallists and some champs. Just hoping this team gets to compete in Vegas without any issues.

Overall I think I might be too pessimistic with this team and you might end up being right at the end. I'm more so confused as to why certain wrestlers are competing at both worlds and Asian games. Surely we have another 86 that can go instead of Nokhodi and the same at 87 instead of Farokhi or Mohmedi. Apart from that I understand why Zare is going but these seem like strange decisions to me.

How injured was Mirzazadeh in his match against Hedayati? The international field at 130 kg is a wasteland. If Hedayati really is 5-1 better than an in form Mirzazadeh, he should destroy everyone at worlds and the olympics.

Old man Riza and perpetually out of shape Semenov are the biggest threats? Slim pickings. Hungary's Vitek is medaling a lot and he is so basic and mediocre.

I think he was injured during the match, if he was injured before they would have rescheduled it.

Hedayati already beat Kayaalp 4-0 a few years ago.

Russians had a bad time in Moscow today

Khaniev, Kadiev, Tazhudinov and Kadik all lost to Americans, and Sadulaev had a surprisingly close 8-6 win over a smaller American greco roman wrestler who was virtually unknown before today

Suddenly, 79 and 86 are more open and Levi Haines and Ghasempour seem to have better chances of success

Snyder is somehow maintaining his great form in his 30s while Tazhudinov is the most washed 23 year old wrestler in history. Yoshida and Yazdani might have a shot at 97 after all, though Snyder seems to be a slight favourite for now

I'm of the opinion that Hedayati and Mirzazadeh are the top 2 130s in the world. Either of them being sent to worlds will win and since Hedayati is only just entering his prime I think he will dominate for a while. The current top 130s as you said (Kayaalp and Semenov) are past their primes and I don't think they can handle Hedayati's pace. Anyone that has a reasonable gas tank and a decent gut wrench can medal at 130 nowadays so guys like Vitek being consistent medal threats don't surprise me.
