Realistically US is running away with the team title this year. I honestly think they will win 4 or 5 golds this year. We might be able to fight for 2nd place but I think we finish third this year in freestyle. Very very poor showing from us at youth levels this year. Don't really see much point in expecting much from this crop of wrestlers they aren't good enough.

to make matters worse, Shamsipour just got pinned in 30 seconds by Khajiev in the repechage

Khajiev teched Shamsipour earlier this year as well, though Shamsipour had beat him 6-5 at Asians after that

Ahora Khateri wins three matches today and wins Bronze at 61kg

only Rahmani reached the final from today's weights. He teched all three of his opponents and has a good chance to win his first world level gold medal

Sina Khalili and Mohsennezhad are Iran's only other realistic chances for gold at this tournament, they both wrestle tomorrow

Khateri is a guy that I think will end up becoming a senior world team member in the near future. He is a very solid wrestler and beat Mendoza who I think is one of the best high school prospects in the US currently. If he was on the other side of the bracket Khateri makes the final like last year. Realistically Elahi needs a couple years until he is competitive at 57 at this age group level, Tat was unlucky against Umarov and Esmi isn't a good wrestler. Rahmani I think will be our future 97kg by 2032 which I am quite excited to see. I agree with Khalili and Mohammadnejad those two are the only ones that will medal I think unless Mamivand and Noory have improved drastically.

Khateri is tough, yes Mendoza was a top 15-20 prospect in this incoming class. Lightning quick and wrestles through everything. Rahmani looks like a monster. I also thought Shampsipour looked good as well. Very strong hand fighter

I am not sure about Khateri, he is improving but remains quite far off the level. I am not sure he can beat Ahmad Javan any time soon, who is also very young (I think 21-22).

I didn’t pick him to medal, but watch France’s Nakaev (74KG).

I remeber watching him here last year, gave Duke a decent match. Hes super dangerous

Kiss of death, was winning then his opponent killed him. He’s done

Sina Khalili and Abolfazl Mohammad Nezhad reach the finals, but our sole medalist from day 2 (Rahmani) loses the final match to Georgia 5-2 and wins silver at 92kg

Khalili and Mohammad Nezhad both win gold

Iran finishes in 4th place with 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal

Horrible performance overall, Ehsan Amini has to be under serious scrutiny for this. Team USA has David Taylor and J'den Cox as coaches and we have Ehsan Amini ...

just for a bit of clarification...

DT is not a Team USA coach...

he just had 2 athletes from OSU competing and was there as a "personal coach" along with Zo...

One problem that Dabir has is that he wants "yes man" in his coaching staff for freestyle since he is a former freestyle wrestler. He believes that he knows everything and wants to micromanage Iran's freestyle teams. It is quite different to greco where the greco coaches can do what they want for the most part. I still wish that Komeil Ghasemi and Reza Yazdani joined our coaching staff as they would be an immense upgrade for us. I'm not too sure who could replace our junior level greco coaches but I would imagine there are a lot of good coaches in Iran who aren't being given the job for non-sporting reasons.

I don't think anyone can complain in good faith about the job Pejman is doing with the senior team. Age level is harder but they should probably be more accepting towards allowing wrestlers to use their personal coaches rather than forcing Amini on everyone.

I also don't think we should blame every loss on the coaches. They can help with preparation but they can't wrestle for the athletes, after all. Our U17 FS team was very good, only our U20 team was bad but if Rahmani didn't fumble his match we would have had 3 gold medals which was more than every other country other than the US with 4 during their best ever year overall.

has our U23 team been confirmed yet? I think we can send a strong FS team, even assuming we don't send any senior world reps given how close U23 Worlds is to the Asian Games and Senior Worlds. This team would only be weak at 65 and 74.

57 - Likely to send Ali Momeni (U23 World Bronze). He has been out of form lately but is probably still our second best 57er behind Valizadeh.

61 - I guess we will send Ahora Khateri (U20 World Silver and Bronze) or Ebrahim Khari (U20 World Silver, U23 World Bronze).

65 - We don't have many options here. Wonder if we send Aliasghar Tat again even though he didn't medal at U20 Worlds.

70 - Suspect we will send Ebrahim Elahi (U17 World Gold, U20 World Bronze).

74 - No good options. Hope we don't send Mamivand again. Reza Shakeri (U20 World Gold) would be best if he is eligible.

79 - Mahdi Yousefi (U20 & U23 World Gold) is the obvious choice.

86 - Abolfazl Shamsipour or Abolfazl Rahmani if he can still make 86kg.

92 - I hope we send Mobin Azimi (U20 & U23 World Gold), he should be in his last year of eligibility. Otherwise, it will probably be Rahmani.

97 - Abolfazl Babaloo (U20 World Gold) would be a good contender, he has only lost to senior medal contenders recently (Aitmukhan, Yoshida, Snyder).

125 - Abolfazl Mohammad Nezhad (U20 & U23 World Gold) is the obvious choice.

Possible GR U23 team, again assuming no overlaps with the senior team. Most of our best U23 prospects are now on the senior team (Ahmadi, Ahmadi Vafa, Esmaeili, Sohrabi, and Hedayati).

55 - Armin Shamsipour (U17 & U20 World Gold) is the obvious choice. He finished 5th at U23 Worlds last year (at 17 years old).

60 -  We can't send Abbaspour again so I would be tempted to send Amirali Heydari (U20 World Bronze).

63 - Erfan Jarkani (U20 & U23 World Bronze).

67 - Ahmadreza Mohsennezhad (2x U20 World Gold, U23 World Bronze).

72 - No good options since Iman Mohammadi is not eligible. Maybe Mohammad Kazemi (U17 World Bronze), but he is very young.

77 - Alireza Abdevali (2x U20 World Gold) is an option given he is no longer on the senior team. Otherwise, Amir Saeidi (U17 World Gold, U20 World Bronze) or Ahoura Bouveiri (U17 & U20 World Silver) are also options.

82 - Abolfazl Mohmedi (U23 World Bronze) did well last year and deserves another shot.

87 - Yasin Yazdi (U20 World Silver and Senior Asian Gold).

97 - Mohammad Seydi (U20 World Silver) is the safest bet after Amirsam Mohammadi's terrible performance at U20 Worlds.

130 - Abolfazl Fathi (2x U20 World Silver). He only has close losses to Darabos (5-3) and Iliasov (5-4), which have aged well.

I don't think u23s have been confirmed for freestyle or greco but from memory some of these guys will be competing at Asian Games. I think Momeni will be competing at 57, Ebrahimzadeh at 65, Emami at 74, Nokhodi at 86, Azarpira at 97 and Zare at 125. For greco I can't remember the full list but off the top of my head I think 77 is one of Bouveri or Abdevali so which ever one didn't make the Asian Games team will be sent to u23s. With the other guys being Farokhi at 87, Mirzazadeh at 130, Bali at 97, Rezaei?/Mohsennejad 67 and I think Abbaspour maybe at 60. In terms of weight classes 57 I agree with unless there is another guy that is good, 61 they might send Khari as he is a little more experienced, 65 I hope they send Tat I like him, 70 Elahi makes sense since Khalili is competing at Senior Worlds, 74 honestly is a mess so anyone would do but Mamivand and Alireza Rezaei. 79 I agree with, 86 I think could also be Reza Afshar or Soleimanian but Rahmani might not make the team since they might give Azimi the 92 spot. 97 please not Babaloo I feel like our 97s are quite weak for some reason at junior levels. 125 I also agree with I don't think there is anyone else of note.
