Nolf Leaving State College

Nolf made a horrible decision. He beat JB in the Olympic Team Trials, and he could have beaten him and represented the US in this Worlds. He would have had a better chance than JB, and he could very well have taken gold at 79kg. Why would he bail after the Olympic Team Trials? Did he think we was going to win that US$1 million in the grappling tournament when his wrestling experience doesn't translate well into a submission sport?

A horrible decision?  He got on with his life.  He is not enjoying wrestling as much as he used to, he has a growing family, and there is other things he wants to do with his life.

Give me a break.

I assume he heard your plea and got out of the way for the youngsters.

JB's chances for repechage fell apart so fast. Gotta suck for him to watch that. Kentchadze had one big sequence in the last 45 seconds and takes a 1 point lead, and then Nokhodi defends a single leg in an obviously compromising way and gets hurt. Tough way to fall out of the bracket. Nokhodi was the better wrestler.

JB not placing does not mean anything about Nolf having a better chance at placing. Shit happens

Didn’t he get $10k just to enter?

Yeah, I think Nolf genuinely geeks out at fight science and just wants to broaden his knowledge. Like if there was a PhD program in combat sports, he would be right there. We saw it in college, the way he'd study tape and "invent" novel moves, and work with Bo & Zain on striking, grappling, submission, etc. So trying out new martial arts and combat sports is no surprise. He seems like a modern day Bruce Lee trying to learn and perfect his craft.

its almost like he had a life outside of wrestling and had to prioritize moving across the country and several business concerns instead of a JV world medal. Guy's just an idiot.

It doesn't really matter.  He made his decision and seems to be at peace with it.

I think we get lost in the fandom and the accolades of the sport that we forget these are real people. Everybody gets burnt out from their job from time to time, but at my job I'm not tearing MCLs and leaving with bruises, cuts, and black eyes. If he wants to do something else, all the respect to him.

I've also heard him say he wants to go into fighting at some point, but I'm not sure if that's still a priority. A lot of people think he left wrestling for BJJ but I also don't think that his sole focus is to win ADCC or CJI. I think he's having fun and obviously has an aptitude for combat sports. Would be awesome to see him in the cage and I feel sorry for whoever would draw him in DWCS.
