Washington at 174?

Washington at 174?

No for a couple reason He is ranked #24 adn didn't win a match at Big Ten and then defaulted in the 9th place bracket and finished what would be 12th and they only had 8 qualifications.
Wask finished 7th and the EIWA had 6 allocations and he went 3-2 at EIWA.  He is also #26 ranked

Thank you. Was just curious. What about the 9th place finisher at big 10s?

Bubba Wilson of Nebraska. He is ranked 31st But I could see him stealing that last spot. But I would pick Wask
Wask has wins over Murphy of Campbell and Faison of NC State which are in the field.
Wilson only field win is over Tyler Eichens of North Carolina.

Plus, Wask qualified the weight for EIWA.

Are you going off actual criteria?  Meaning predicting base on that or are these who you think deserve.

Not sure exact criteria, but I do believe most of your selections are accurate.

Of note: Washington is 3W - 0L against common opponents this year, where Wask is 2W - 2L.

At 165, would Derek Fields being 4-2 against common opponents to Mulvany's 3-3 put him in the lead for getting an at-large bid?

Fields is also 2-0 against Heller.

Then I think Fields takes the spot from Mulvaney. I think I may have thought Fields had already qualified.
I went down the ranking and saw where the placed at Conference and if they earned the conference an allocation. So those were the ones I came up with.
As far as Washington I think I was a little prejudice when it came to him from the year he finished 14th at Big Ten and qualified (Which is absurd that all 14 qualified) and then promptly went 0-2 also he has also gone 3-7 since the Southern Scuffle.

If you think about taking Washington you should probably take DJ Shannon insted who is 11-18 with two of those wins over Washington in the last month.

Wilson just beat Shannon twice

Not sure if Hepner will get an at large even though I’d like him to. They have 10 allocations at 65’ and he finished 12th and looked horrible…. That be a lot from one weight class from one conference to get 12 out of 14 in the big dance

Colaicco doesn't seem to be having a great season, how is he 9 even before the EIWA?

Eight losses heading into EIWA:

  • Hildebrandt, Drexel (6-4)
  • Shawver, Rutgers (9-8)
  • Crookham, Lehigh (4-2)
  • Arujau, Cornell 2x (12-3 & 11-4)
  • McGonagle, Lehigh (8-2)
  • Ragusin, Michigan (15-3)
  • Romney, Cal Poly (16-3)

What are the criteria for the at large bids?  Is it all math, or is there discretion?

SELECTION CRITERIA
On March 11, wrestlers in each weight class will receive an updated Win %, RPI and coaches’ ranking that includes all
competition through the qualifying events. Wrestlers who meet or exceed any two of the following criteria will be eligible
for at-large consideration:
● .700 Win %
● Top 33 RPI
● Top 33 CR
● .700 winning percentage against all competition
● One win against a wrestler receiving an earned position (pre-allocated)
● Qualifying event placement one below number of pre-allocated spots
Only wrestlers that meet or exceed two of the above criteria will be eligible for selection as at-large qualifiers. A
wrestler must have participated in at least two matches in his respective conference or qualifying tournament in
order to be considered for at-large selection to the championships.

Good stuff! So I'm assuming Bubba Wilson will hit 2 of those.  What's next in the process? A vote between coaches?

No, it is a comparison among wrestlers. This powerpoint does a partial job of explaining it starting on page 7:

In years past, it seemed like they valued conference placement and wins over automatic qualifiers the most.

Looks like @Wrestleknownothing had to show he knows he knows something and posted the actual criteria… see the document he referenced for the criteria breakdown
