Well, here’s another post by the person that said Bailey is a thug (which a reminder, I was not even originally counting as one of the 4 racist comments):

I know as someone said earlier, x/twitter is a cesspool, but I do feel like at least in wrestling conversations the number of overtly racist comments under that post did still seem out of the ordinary.  Although getting off topic but speaking of x/twitter being a cesspool, I have also noticed a steady increase in porn accounts replying to wrestling posts which is annoying…

But I'm sure that you're aware that people can say and do racist things even if they don't intend them to be racist, right? A person can say racist things and have no idea that those things are racist because their life experiences haven't shown them that they are indeed racist. It might mean that there isn't malicious intent, but those things are still racism. 

Some might view a situation like this as an opportunity to learn about the historical use of the words of phrases they write on their favorite social media platform and change the way they react to future events, others will brush it off as no big deal. Some will be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to passive/subtle and not-so-subtle uses of racist language, others won't. 

It's up to each person to make these decisions for themselves. I personally try to treat people with the same respect and dignity that I'd like to treated with. I'm going to give grace to people and allow them to be human and make mistakes, but I can still identify when people are using racist language and condemn it regardless of their intent.

To clarify, you see the phrase "Ban him from wrestling" as a racist phrase in and of itself?

Are they "magic" in the Harry Potter sense? No, but depending on how you define "actual injury" certain combinations of syllables are more powerful than others. I'm not sure if recognizing this relative power is a sign that we are moving toward a more just way of dealing with each other.

Re demographic data: Bad euphemism on my part. We just note if the dude is a white guy or a brown guy. This kind of descrimination is more or less racist, too. I'm not claiming immunity.

if they were doing it for racial reasons yes. people should be united by ideas not skin.

this is a pretty puritanical take on my part, i'm not trying to embue it with a lot drama, but some ideas are so desctructive that their seeds should be pointed out.

That doesnt make it racist. Being racist is being prejudice towards a different race. 

 

Regardless of how "united" you think we all should be, people of other skin color will ALWAYS exist and some races history aren't as long as others. For them to be proud of their progress, again, isnt racist. What an absolutely horrendous take.

"Race" is about more than skin as the George Hamilton pic above makes clear. Racial identity is about ideas, a bunch of ideas, bunch of incredibly complicated and contradictory ideas.

I think this is part of the problem with the world right now - people are so quick to characterize entire groups of people based on the actions of some individuals.  But other than a common interest in the sport, I don't believe there is any particular characteristic - whether based on race, religion, political views, or whatever - that are necessarily in common to wrestling fans as a whole.

We should certainly call out injustice where we may see it, but not attribute the guilt to others based on some other association.

Look all the MAGA idiocy you seen parroted in wrestling forums and in the community, chances are amateur wrestling fans in general look at this as just another example of something that snowflakes like you and I are just too soft to handle and why don't we just go crying to our safe space.
