Tangled with a grizzly and lived to tell the tale. They're two of the most luckiest sob's that walked those trails (lucky to be alive, that is... )

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I thought I read about this ~a year ago. A friend(the one crazy SOB who WOULD probably try and do some stupid shit like that) sent me a link. I could have sworn it was ESPN. And he sent it because we'd both known someone who'd been attacked by a Grizzly.

I came across a black bear in a pretty remote area once...about half a mile away from where I was coming and a quarter mile where I was going. I just saw...I don't even remember how many Cubs, but I know there were at least 2(I was about 11-12). And they came out on this 4-wheeler trail that I rode all the time up by my families land(Uncle, Grandparents, Dads). I knew enough to freeze up and then just start walking backward and hope that Mother Bear was not coming out behind me.

Finally I saw it walk out onto the road, look right at me and...just completely dismiss me as a threat. It probably came out ~30 seconds later, so I don't know how far I'd backpedaled in the meantime. It wasn't a big bear. Maybe 250?

500 pound Grizzly? I can't even fathom...and the guts it took for that kid to throw his body against the Grizzly...crazy. One of the ballsy-est stories I've ever heard.

Great story. It would make a pretty good movie.

Never encountered a Grizzly but I too have seen my share of Black Bears. Fortunately they tend to be less aggressive mind their own business and I've never had an incident, though I do give them every ounce of respect that they deserve.

Yeah...if it was a Grizzly, I'd have ended up going through the digestive track of a Grizzly.

BUT, ANY Bear you see with Cubs will attack and kill you if you are viewed as a Cub. I really think if I hadn't seen the Cubs about 30 seconds ahead and started to slowly back up, that Bear could have attacked.

Anyway...I was fine, not about me. I just remember that fear...and then we'd watch them come in(Gramps fed them) and you could turn on the lights about 60 yards away in the Summer and there'd be 4-6-8 Bear out there and then 20 yards away, you'd see up to 10-15 Deer.

They were tiny compared to Grizzly Bears, but the way they just ripped the meat from the bone, it was wild. We did have some big ones. Had a cousin shoot a 600 LB Black Bear out the window(pretty sure that was illegal, but that was like 20 years ago).

ANYWAY, original story. Grizzly and throwing yourself into one. That's absolutely insane.

Mark Schultz has a story about wrestling a bear that was chained up at some bar. I think the catch was you would only win if you could pin both of its wrists down at the same time, which is apparently impossible because of how they are built. He felt sad for the bear since he thought the owner abused it.
