Private healthcare is allowed in Canada, but it is heavily regulated and cannot cover medically necessary services that are insured by the public system. Most private clinics focus on non-essential services, and doctors must choose between working in the public system or privately, but not both simultaneously.

Doesnt matter. We can do it differently here.

Exactly. The good doctors have left for the US where they can make money under capitalism.

There are plenty of fat cats in Canada that, if the public service sucked, could pay top dollar for services. Would be much easier for doctors thsn having to deal with u.s  insurance companies and medicare.

Now explain exactly what “do it differently” means.  Your opinion that it can be done differently doesn’t mean shit.

IIs very simple if u arent an idiot. If somebody wants to pay a doctor privately, they'll be able to do it. Eliminating that option wouidnt fly in the USA.

Perfect. Then have an opt out for those that want better care. And they pay for it as they are now, individually or thru the company they work for.  Those that opt in can be the ones getting taxed.   Since you like taxes so much we’ll call it a “user tax”.  Companies would have the same option. Not to offer health care to their employees or to use it as leverage to attract and retain the best people.

Over 45% of the country pays ZERO federal income tax. If health care is as big of a priority as you say it is then they can help pony up for it.  Perfect place to start funding it.

What percent of that 45% are paying a $200+/mo phone + streaming bill?

Because watching Netflix is more important than your health.

Fraud is not a prioritized reason to avoid socialized health care.

The current system of pvt companies getting reimbursed by the govt 110% maximizes fraud.

I’m glad you liked my healthcare user tax idea.  Works perfect.   Imagine having an incentive to get a job with great medical benefits so you can avoid having to be taxed for basic coverage.

Great topic and discussion, for the most part.  I'd ask, what problem are "we" trying to solve?  I hear a lot of solutioning without anyone stating clearly the problem that needs to be solved nor any root causes, and "insurance companies bad" is not a root cause.

To say the system is "broken" is to vague...same for "it cost to much"...define what broken means and explain how and where and how often it is broken based on that definition.  Then I think "we" could get somewhere to make it better. IMHO

Personally I don't think it's "broken" but could be improved upon.

The most inefficient and corrupt system is one where everybody has a right to the services (funded by the govt when they can't afford it themselves at a growing rate) but at the same time, almost 100% of the work is done by private corporations.

You are 110% guaranteed to get rampant fraud with a system like this.

I keep hearing we can do it differently here yet no one can say what that means.   @red vikingclaims it means we won’t cover plastic surgery which is a stupid comment as getting a boob or nose job isn’t covered in places like Canada.  I guess different doesn’t really mean different.

Its very simple for a non idiot. Few of any people are pushing to ban doctors from performing ordinary services in pvt. Your bs argument is another fraudulent winger strawman.

You're an idiot to assume that. Who's proposing that here?
