A non in depth brief overview of his career. Bruce talks about his best opponents, gives a surprising answer.

My pet peeve of wrestling commentators, pundits, having utter tunnel vision for anything non American in International wrestling was on full display. I could tell the interviewer was surprised when Bruce said he won thanks to the boycott in 84, c'mon man.

I feel like these interviews could be so much better if the interveiwee actually knew his stuff and could ask follow up questions or dig into the details. Instead he's just nodding along when Bruce mentions Sandurski Gobishivili, Salman, because he has no idea who any of these people are or their history with Bruce.

Hatch’s pod is not set up to dig deep into anything and he openly states that…

he is just looking for stories…

Bruce is just not a dynamic personality to put it mildly nor is he a rocket scientist…

I have seen everything now.  Someone complained about the Full Tilt podcast.

I don't have sacred cows. It helps when an interviewer is knowledgeable on the topic.

Whatever happened on this podcast cannot be as ridiculous as Willie on Basch inferring that PSU doesn't own the Bryce Jordan Center bc they have to pay to use it.  Tell me that you don't understand university financials...

This may have even topped him repeatedly saying SteveNson the previous week.

Just saying!  I love "The Brain!" and his insights!

Meanwhile you have Mike Mal on his podcast inventing statistics with no rationale behind them whatsoever.  Making incorrect inferences by looking at number of points scored at a weight in nationals and telling D1 all-Americans that they need to average x number of points to be a champ next year.  Is he actually shopping these stats to someone?

Nick Kosko seems to be the only interviewer in wrestling who actually does background research on his guests beforehand.

You don't have to be omniscient as a host, but prepping for interviews should be mandatory. I'm assuming Mark Bader and his ilk grew up watching Joe Rogan and think they can just smoke a blunt and wing it.

I'll raise you Scott Green doing a 45-minute InterMat podcast on the first year of RAF, and starting out with admitting he's never actually watched a RAF show:

Penn State is a weird situation… the normal FOIA rules don’t apply (why you don’t see Carl’s salary), so it definitely could be a weird situation with using BJC.

Shit...is that the marker for being old?  As my son would say, I'm cooked

When you have memories of running away from cops in St. Louis for underage drinking with guys who are now considered “legends”, you feel old…

I'm not sure how relevant it is to the conversation but the BJC isn't part of the Athletic department at the BJC so everything that Athletics does in there (basketball practice, office spaces, wrestling dual etc) they do have to pay rent for.  It's University bucks to University bucks so it's not like going out and sending money to an outside entity but it's still affecting someone in the Athletic department's budget (who's depends on what exactly we are talking about; practices are typically from team budget, the actual competition would come from event/facilities management, office space from general athletics etc).

So Athletics is paying to use the BJC but it's just paying a different bucket of Penn St.

Right.  And I know that you have a better grasp on this than I do, but I'm pretty sure that its a situation where any night where PSU is wrestling or playing basketball , they can't rent it out to Flock of Seagulls or Culture Club.  So they still need to bring in some revenue for the building.

But it is still owned by PSU.

Correct, an athletic event (just like a concert) takes over all the "rentable" spaces.

Agreed - still owned by PSU.  Penn St is one of the athletic departments that is self-funded; like no tuition dollars so it is more of a separate bucket than some other athletic departments are but you are right still PSU paying PSU. . . lot of blue bucks moving around.

Without knowing the exact clip, my guess is those on the Basch podcast understood the situation but didn't express it clearly or eloquently enough.

If only there was a tournament that paid let’s say ~$250,000 for the winner.   If only this event was supposedly so easy to win, that it wasn’t even worth your effort to attend.

Well the wording was basically 'PSU doesn't own the BJC, it is right in the middle of campus but they don't own it.'

In that case I have less confidence in their understanding haha but glad I could at least clarify it here
